Cultivation and breeding of root chicory for inulin production

Industrial Crops and Products, 1992
Abstract Belgium has a tradition of cultivating chicory for use as a coffee surrogate. Recently, chicory has become more important for the extraction of inulin and hydrolysis products such as oligofructose and fructose. Cultivation is surveyed, highlighting specific problems in relation to phytotechnic practices (crop rotation, fertilization, sowing,

CFD Simulations of Chicory Root Palloxes for Cool Storage

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract A model is presented to investigate the airflow through a row of palloxes and the corresponding temperature and moisture distributions using computational fluid dynamics. The pressure drop through the bulk of chicory roots has been measured and incorporated in the model.
