Zika virus: New clinical syndromes and its emergence in the western hemisphere [PDF]
Zika virus (ZIKV) had remained a relatively obscure flavivirus until a recent series of outbreaks accompanied by unexpectedly severe clinical complications brought this virus into the spotlight as causing an infection of global public health concern.

A blood safety perspective on emerging arboviral infections in the United Kingdom
Abstract A core focus of the blood services is to maintain the blood supply whilst simultaneously being vigilant for potential threats to blood safety. At present, West Nile virus (WNV), Usutu virus (USUV), Dengue virus (DENV) and Tick‐borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) are considered primary arboviral threats to blood safety in the UK and Northern Europe.

Chikungunya Virus–Vector Interactions [PDF]
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a mosquito-borne alphavirus that causes chikungunya fever, a severe, debilitating disease that often produces chronic arthralgia. Since 2004, CHIKV has emerged in Africa, Indian Ocean islands, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, causing millions of human infections.

Ten years since the last Chikungunya virus outbreak in Italy. History repeats itself [PDF]
The prevalence of Arbovirus (arthropod-borne virus) infections is increasing worldwide. Recently, new clusters of autochthonous cases have been reported in countries with temperate climates where the competent vector is present.

Blood donor West Nile virus screening identifies three autochthonous Usutu virus infections in Spain
Abstract Background Considering the increase of West Nile virus (WNV) circulation in Europe, blood banks perform WNV Nucleic Acid Test testing to ensure transfusion safety during the WNV transmission season. Usutu virus (USUV), an arbovirus related to WNV, has relevant molecular and serological cross‐reactivity with WNV. Study Design and Methods During

Chikungunya Virus in Macaques, Malaysia [PDF]
To the Editor: In the past 10 years, chikungunya virus (CHIKV) has caused global epidemics of fever, rash, and arthralgia affecting millions of humans, most recently in the Americas (1). CHIKV is an alphavirus transmitted by Aedes spp. mosquitoes. This virus has been isolated from wild vertebrates, particularly nonhuman primates (NHPs), in Africa (2 ...

On the dynamics of a class of multi-group models for vector-borne diseases [PDF]
The resurgence of vector-borne diseases is an increasing public health concern, and there is a need for a better understanding of their dynamics. For a number of diseases, e.g.

Dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus surveillance in blood donors in Brazil, 2019–2021
Abstract Background and Objectives Arbovirus infections are a major public health concern in Brazil and an ongoing blood safety concern. Periodic outbreaks of such infections are common in the general population. This study aimed to establish the rates of dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus (DENV, CHIKV, ZIKV) RNAemia among blood donors at six public ...

A Metapopulation Model for Chikungunya Including Populations Mobility on a Large-Scale Network
In this work we study the influence of populations mobility on the spread of a vector-borne disease. We focus on the chikungunya epidemic event that occurred in 2005-2006 on the R\'eunion Island, Indian Ocean, France, and validate our models with real ...
