Structural proteins of Chikungunya virus
Journal of Virology, 1984Polyacrylamide gel analysis of the structural proteins of African and Asian strains of Chikungunya virus, an alphavirus, showed that both strains contain three structural proteins: glycosylated E1 and E2, embedded in the viral envelope, and a nonglycosylated nucleocapsid protein.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), a member of the Alphavirus genus, represents a real public health problem in tropical regions of the Southeast Asia and Africa. It is transmitted to the man by Aedes mosquitoes and the illness, known as Chikungunya, is characterized by fever, eruptions and invalidating arthralgia.

MORPHOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT OF CHIKUNGUNYA VIRUS
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1966Chikungunya virus was first detected by electron microscopy of primary chick embryo fibroblast cultures 5 hours after inoculation. Two types of particles were observed in the cytoplasm of infected cells, but not in uninoculated cells. The smaller, presumably precursor particles, measured 260 to 280 Å.

Molecular Virology of Chikungunya Virus
2018Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) was discovered more than six decades ago, but has remained poorly investigated. However, after a recent outbreak of CHIK fever in both hemispheres and viral adaptation to new species of mosquitoes, it has attracted a lot of attention.

Chikungunya and Zika Virus Vaccines
2018The spread of chikungunya and Zika viruses can be controlled by vaccination of human populations. Classical inactivated virus formulations and live attenuated viruses have demonstrated different rates of success. The molecular toolbox is now advanced enough to explore the potential of novel vaccine modalities that are in different stages of development

Mouse Models of Chikungunya Virus
2016The majority of medical advances have been made using animals. Studies using mouse models of chikungunya-induced disease have proven invaluable for dissecting the intricate nature of the immune response to this viral infection and identifying potential targets for the development of treatment strategies.

The characterization of Chikungunya virus RNA
Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1972Highly purified preparations of Chikungunya virus (CHV) were obtained from culture fluid of infected VERO cells (Green monkey kidney stable cells) by differential centrifugation involving sedimentation through 25% sucrose solution and density gradient centrifugation by the use of potassium tartrate (17 to 27 %).
