Awareness towards Chikungunya virus infection risk by general practitioners in Rome: a questionnaire based survey before the 2017 outbreak [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Autochthonous cases of Chikungunya (CHIKV) have been recently detected in Rome. A survey was conduct- ed prior to the 2017 outbreak to assess knowledge, attitude, and practices towards CHIKV infections on 103 randomly selected general practitioners (GPs),

Wafer‐Scale Integration of α‐quartz Thin Films toward Super High Frequency Piezoelectric bioNEMS for Chikungunya Virus Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 1, 2 January 2026.
Epitaxial piezoelectric α‐quartz/Si BioNEMS sensors, made using soft chemistry, effectively detect the Chikungunya virus. They have a mass sensitivity of 205 pg Hz−1 in liquid and can detect the virus at a limit of 9 ng mL−1. This development enables high‐frequency mass devices for point‐of‐care testing in healthcare and other electronic applications ...

Nonreciprocity in CHIKV and MAYV Vaccine-Elicited Protection

open access: yesVaccines
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a pathogenic arthritogenic alphavirus responsible for large-scale human epidemics for which a vaccine was recently approved for use. Mayaro virus (MAYV) is a related emerging alphavirus with epidemic potential with circulation overlap potential with CHIKV.

Comodulation of Dengue and Chikungunya Virus Infection During a Coinfection Scenario in Human Cell Lines

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
The Dengue virus (DENV) and Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) are the arboviruses that pose a threat to global public health. Coinfection and antibody-dependent enhancement are major areas of concern during DENV and CHIKV infections, which can alter the clinical

Universal Regulation of DNA Polymerase via Photocaged Primer Enables Light‐Start Isothermal Amplification on Demand

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 3, 14 January 2026.
A simple and general photoactivatable approach is developed to regulate DNA polymerase activity, enabling light‐start isothermal amplification on demand. The molecular dynamics simulations reveals that the photocaged primer blocks DNA polymerase activity by inhibiting the conformational change of the polymerase.

Miltefosine inhibits Chikungunya virus replication in human primary dermal fibroblasts [version 1; referees: 2 approved, 1 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2018
Background: Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a re-emerging pathogen that has caused widespread outbreaks affecting millions of people around the globe. Currently, there is no specific therapeutic drug against CHIKV, with symptomatic treatment only to manage ...

Characterization of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase from Chikungunya virus and discovery of a novel ligand as a potential drug candidate

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is the causative agent of Chikungunya fever, an acute febrile and arthritogenic illness with no effective treatments available. The development of effective therapeutic strategies could be significantly accelerated with detailed

Identical Strength of the T Cell Responses against E2, nsP1 and Capsid CHIKV Proteins in Recovered and Chronic Patients after the Epidemics of 2005-2006 in La Reunion Island

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
To characterize the immunity developed by patients infected by chikungunya virus (CHIKV), we studied the intensity and specificity of CHIKV-specific T cells mediated responses in chronic and recovered patients at 12 to 24 months post-infection.

Development of a Novel Aedes aegypti Repellent: An Integrated Approach Combining In Silico and Bioassays

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
OBP1 plays an essential role in the behavior response of Aedes aegypti. The computational approaches employed herein suggest a compound with repellency activity in the ZINC database, which was confirmed by bioassays. ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti is the most important vector of arboviruses, which are responsible for 3.9 billion cases worldwide.
