Children's Human Capabilities and Child Maltreatment

open access: yesJournal de Ciencias Sociales, 2020
There are no known studies that have explored a conceptual basis for valorizing child maltreatment as a human development impediment using the Human Capability Approach.

Elevated Apolipoprotein E Expression in Hippocampal Microglia Drives Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In temporal lobe epilepsy, hippocampal APOE is markedly upregulated predominantly in microglia. APOE overexpression in microglia drives TLR4 and cGAS/STING‐dependent neuroinflammation, engages bidirectional crosstalk with neurons and astrocytes, increases neuronal excitability, and perturbs hippocampal lipid metabolism. These findings suggest that APOE‐

Safeguarding children and young people from sexual exploitation (consultation document) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
"This guidance is designed to assist practitioners in preventing child sexual exploitation (CSE), protecting children and young people who are at risk of abuse or are abused through sexual exploitation, and disrupting and prosecuting those who perpetrate

Iron Overload Mediates the Differential Cell Fate of Astrocytes from Neurons and Its Regulatory Mechanisms in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upon ischemia/reperfusion‐induced iron overload condition, neurons and astrocytes exhibit similar oxidative stress changes but opposite alterations in endogenous antioxidant defense mechanisms, leading to divergent ferroptotic outcomes. The iron deposition and neuronal loss are increased within the perilesional cortex of stroke patients ...

Child Abuse Programme Guiding Principles: Background and a More Detailed Elaboration of the Programmatic Implications of the Guiding Principles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Oak Foundation's Child Abuse Programme puts the child at the centre of all the work it supports. This statement has guided the foundation's work over the past decade, and we now feel that it is time to clarify and expand on this, with some additional ...

Utilizing Proteolytic‐Resistant Nano‐Short Peptide Based on Naphthyl Tail‐Anchored to Combat Bacterial Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) show potential as alternatives to antibiotics for bacterial infections; however, their susceptibility to proteases limits wider application. In this study, N4 nanofibers are constructed by integrating anti‐enzymolysis motif into the self‐assembly system triggered by naphthyl‐anchored.

Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation: Guest Editor’s Introduction

open access: yesInternational Journal for Crime, Justice and Social Democracy, 2015
One of the most unnerving aspects of child sexual abuse is that it is constantly manifesting in unexpected ways. The current Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has collected testimony of abuse in churches, schools, out-of-

A Programmable, 3D Neuron‐On‐Chip Platform Integrating Near Real‐Time Biosensing and Multiaxial Loading for Mechanobiological Injury Profiling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A programmable 3D Neuron‐Injury‐on‐a‐Chip platform integrates multiaxial mechanical loading with ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensing to decode neuronal responses in real time. By mimicking physiologically relevant extension–torsion forces, the system reveals load‐specific biomarker trajectories (T‐Tau, NFL), gene regulation, and apoptosis.
