Transplantation of Amniotic Epithelial Cells into Fetal Rat Liver by In Utero Manipulation

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 2002
It has been hoped that amniotic epithelial cells would be a gene carrier to neural and hepatic tissue, because of 1) the presence of neural and hepatic stem-like cells, 2) the ability to cryopreserve them, 3) long-term survival in the transplanted site ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Oxytocin for male subjects with autism spectrum disorder and comorbid intellectual disabilities: A randomized pilot study

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2016
Approximately half of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) individual suffer from comorbid intellectual disabilities (ID). Oxytocin (OXT) receptors are highly expressed in temporal lobe structures and are likely to play a modulatory role in excitatory ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Enhancing family wellness through parallel parent-child mindfulness intervention in a migrant community: A pilot study

open access: yes, 2021
Background and objective: China’s urbanization has led to over 290 million workers and 35 million children to relocate from their rural homes to cities. These migrant families experience significant stress due to their socioeconomic challenges.
