Prevalence of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Australia, 2010–2022: A Population‐Based Study Using Linked National Administrative Health Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogenous inflammatory condition, with widely varying global prevalence estimates. Frequency of SLE in the general population of Australia has been reported to be notably lower than contemporary estimates in countries such as the US or UK at 19‐39 per 100,000 as opposed to 65‐97 per 100,000.

Measuring progress towards achieving Millennium Development Goals in small populations: is under‐five mortality in Tuvalu declining?

open access: yesAustralian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health, 2014
Objectives: Infant mortality rates (IMR) and under‐five mortality rates (U5MR) in Tuvalu (2010 population 11,149) for 1990–2011 were evaluated to determine best estimates of levels and trends.

Survival Convergence: Specification Matters [PDF]

open access: yes
Retaining as a “Millennium Development Goal” a decrease by two thirds in child mortality whatever its initial level assumes that the target elasticity of child mortality may be the same in all the developing countries.

A double-masked placebo-controlled trial of azithromycin to prevent child mortality in Burkina Faso, West Africa: Community Health with Azithromycin Trial (CHAT) study protocol. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND:Biannual, mass azithromycin distribution has previously been shown to reduce all-cause child mortality in sub-Saharan Africa. Subgroup analysis suggested that the strongest effects were in the youngest children, leading to the hypothesis that ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Seeds of hope: Assessing the effect of development aid on the reduction of child mortality [PDF]

open access: yes
The Millennium Declaration (2000) set as one of its targets a substantial reduction in child mortality. This paper studies whether the massive increase in development aid can account for part of the reduction in child mortality observed in developing ...

Under-two child mortality according to maternal HIV status in Rwanda: assessing outcomes within the National PMTCT Program

open access: yesThe Pan African Medical Journal, 2011
INTRODUCTION: We sought to compare risk of death among children aged under-2 years born to HIV positive mother (HIV-exposed) and to HIV negative mother (HIV non-exposed), and identify determinants of under-2 mortality among the two groups in Rwanda ...

Using the Lives Saved Tool as part of evaluations of community case management programs

open access: yesJournal of Global Health, 2014
Integrated community case management (iCCM) has been recommended by the World Health Organization to reduce mortality among children in populations with limited access to facility–based health care providers. Although many countries have introduced iCCM,
