Large-scale discovery of enhancers from human heart tissue. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Development and function of the human heart depend on the dynamic control of tissue-specific gene expression by distant-acting transcriptional enhancers.

Analysis of Treacher Collins syndrome 4‐associated mutations in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Fission yeast models carrying Treacher Collins syndrome type 4‐associated mutations reveal that impaired processivity of RNA polymerase I leads to defective rRNA transcription. This study highlights the essential role of a conserved arginine residue in Pol I elongation and provides mechanistic insight into the pathogenesis of ribosomopathies.

Label-free isolation of prostate circulating tumor cells using Vortex microfluidic technology. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There has been increased interest in utilizing non-invasive "liquid biopsies" to identify biomarkers for cancer prognosis and monitoring, and to isolate genetic material that can predict response to targeted therapies. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) have

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.

Exploring Halo Substructure with Giant Stars IV: The Extended Structure of the Ursa Minor Dwarf Spheroidal

open access: yes, 2002
We present a large area photometric survey of the Ursa Minor dSph. We identify UMi giant star candidates extending to ~3 deg from the center of the dSph.

An Experimental Investigation of Hot Machining with Induction to Improve Ti-5553 Machinability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The manufacturing of aeronautic parts with high mechanical properties requires the use of high performance materials. That’s why; new materials are used for landing gears such as the titanium alloy Ti-5553.

Tumour-on-a-chip: microfluidic models of tumour morphology, growth and microenvironment [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of The Royal Society Interface, 2017
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death, albeit enormous efforts to cure the disease. To overcome the major challenges in cancer therapy, we need to have a better understanding of the tumour microenvironment (TME), as well as a more effective means to screen anti-cancer drug leads; both can be achieved using advanced technologies, including ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

Final Heat Treatment as a Possible Solution for the Improvement of Machinability of Pb-Free Brass Alloys

open access: yesMetals, 2018
Heat treatment was performed in order to improve the machinability of three lead-free extruded and drawn brasses, namely CuZn42 (CW510L), CuZn38As (CW511L), and CuZn36 (C27450), based on the concept of microstructural modification.

Inverse-opal conducting polymer monoliths in microfluidic channels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Inverse opal monolithic flow-through structures of polyaniline (PANI) were achieved in microfluidic channels for lab-on-a-chip (LOC) applications. In order to achieve the uniformly porous monolith, polystyrene (PS) colloidal crystal (CC) templates were ...
