Kinetic Chiral Resolution by Thin Layer Extraction

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2013
A theoretical study of kinetic chiral resolution of ionic compounds by thin layer extraction, based on a model that has been successfully tested experimentally by others indicates that considerable resolution may be achieved in a single contacting stage provided the reaction rates of the two enantiomers are sufficiently differentiated.

Template‐Confined Synthesis of Shape‐Engineered Single‐Crystal Gold Microplates in Lithographically‐Defined Polymeric Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐crystal gold microplates are high‐performance nanomaterials with an impressive wafer‐based application space. Progress has, however, been tempered by an inability to exert synthetic control over microplate size, shape, and positioning. In this work, control over these parameters is demonstrated using a seed‐mediated synthesis that both confines ...

Large interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions across Ag-layers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Seeking to enhance the strength of the interlayer Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (IL-DMI) through a combination of atomic and Rashba type spin-orbit coupling (SOC) we studied the strength and the thickness evolution of effective interlayer coupling in

Chiral Phase Change Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates reversible, non‐volatile phase transitions in chiral Ge2${\rm Ge}_2$Sb2${\rm Sb}_2$Te5${\rm Te}_5$ (GST) nanohelices for high‐speed optical modulation of chirality and dynamic control of the state of polarization (SOP). The chiral nanostructures are fabricated using a highly directional, wafer‐scale physical vapor deposition ...

The spin structures of interlayer coupled magnetic films with opposite chirality

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Using Monte-Carlo simulations and micromagnetic simulations, we reveal how the spin structural correlation and the skyrmion dynamics are affected by the interlayer coupling in a chiral magnetic bilayer system, in which the two layers have opposite ...

Dye‐Initiated Chirped Cholesteric Polymer Networks Exhibiting Broadband Dissipative Chiral Photonic Bands

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dye‐based photoinitiator acting as a structure‐directing element, guides the formation of a cholesteric polymer network that behaves as a chirped photonic structure with dissipative chiral coupling. Photopolymerization freezes a depth‐dependent helical pitch, broadening the Bragg resonance spectrum.

Oblique light incidence method to study topological defects in nematic layers with conical boundary conditions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
A polarization microscopy method to investigate the orientational structures and boojums formed in the chiral and achiral nematic layers under conical (tilted) boundary conditions has been developed.

Spin and Charge Control of Topological End States in Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons on a 2D Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral graphene nanoribbons on a ferromagnetic gadolinium‐gold surface alloy display tunable spin and charge states at their termini. Atomic work function variations and exchange fields enabe transitions between singlet, doublet, and triplet configurations.

Chiral packing of chiral quintuple layers polycatenated to give a three-dimensional network in the coordination polymer [Co-5(bpe)(9)(H2O)(8)(SO4)(4)](SO4)center dot 14H(2)O [bpe=1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane]

open access: yes, 2000
The reaction of cobalt(II) sulfate with 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane gives a crystalline polymeric species comprised of chiral quintuple layers with five decks of linear chains rotated by 120 degrees from level to level, that are perpendicularly joined via ...
