Abstract Bats are nocturnal mammals that have achieved the ability of true self-powered Pight and are members of the monophyletic Order Chiroptera (meaning “hand-wing”; Fig. 1). 7ey are the second most species-rich mammalian order (>1000 species) and account for 20% of all extant mammalian diversity (1).

In 1999 2003 winter census of bats was carried out in 12 caves of Central Podillya region (S.-E. part of Ternopilska and S.-W. part of Khmelnytska administrative provinces of Ukraine): Chaplynski quarries, Atlantyda, Zaluchanska, Khrystynka, Ugryn???, Mlynky, Juvileina, Slavka, Kryshtaleva, Optymistyclma, Ozerna and Verteba caves.

The article deals with the results of studies of the shoulder girdle musculature in six horseshoe bat species of the USSR fauna. A description of the musculature and weight characterigtics of all muscles are given. A comparative analysis of these characters in the studied species is carried out.
