Nonlinear frequency modulation chirps for active sonar

open access: yes, 1999
Range sidelobe suppression in pulse-compression radars and sonars is conventionally performed using amplitude windowing in either the time or frequency domains.

Evaluation and Application of Multi-Source Satellite Rainfall Product CHIRPS to Assess Spatio-Temporal Rainfall Variability on Data-Sparse Western Margins of Ethiopian Highlands

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The spatio-temporal characteristic of rainfall in the Beles Basin of Ethiopia is poorly understood, mainly due to lack of data. With recent advances in remote sensing, satellite derived rainfall products have become alternative sources of rainfall data ...

Parallel Multi‐Target Detection for Quantum LiDAR

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Parallel multi‐target detection is achieved in quantum LiDAR with a single‐pixel quantum readout. Direction and distance information are extracted together, allowing multiple objects to be distinguished under noisy low‐light conditions and pointing to a new strategy for scan‐free quantum remote sensing.

Comparative analysis of rainfall data from remote sensing and surface stations in the Paracatu river basin, Brazilian Cerrado

open access: yesInvestigaciones Geográficas
Accurate precipitation estimation is essential for water resource management, especially in tropical regions where the spatial and temporal variability of rainfall presents significant challenges.

Individual acoustic variation in Belding’s ground squirrel alarm chirps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The acoustic structure of calls within call types can vary as function of individual identity, sex, and social group membership and is important in kin and social group recognition.

Visible Octave Frequency Combs in Silicon Nitride Nanophotonic Waveguides Driven by Ti:Sapphire Lasers

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Chip‐based frequency combs are usually pumped from telecom wavelengths, far from the visible. This work instead pumps close to the visible with a Ti:sapphire laser ‐ the source behind the original optical frequency combs and now becoming chip‐integrable‐ and lets silicon‐nitride waveguides convert it into efficient, octave‐spanning visible‐to‐infrared ...

Noise Suppression via Gain‐Dispersion‐Managed Nonlinear Amplification in a High‐Power Er‐Fiber Laser

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Gain‐dispersion‐managed nonlinear pre‐amplification simultaneously suppresses phase and intensity noise, enabling scalable high‐power fiber amplification. The system delivers 102.3 W linearly polarized pulses with 1.19 µJ energy at 85.69 MHz and compresses them to 380 fs. Near‐linear power scaling without evident saturation highlights a practical route

Chirped Attosecond Photoelectron Spectroscopy

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2006
We study analytically the photoionization of a coherent superposition of electronic states and show that chirped pulses can measure attosecond time scale electron dynamics just as effectively as transform-limited attosecond pulses of the same bandwidth.

Simultaneous ToF/FMCW LiDAR Using a Dual‐Mode Light Source in a Single Architecture

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A simultaneous ToF/FMCW LiDAR architecture is demonstrated using a dual‐mode light source that alternately generates optical pulses and frequency‐chirped light within a single acquisition. By combining time‐domain ToF and coherent FMCW ranging, the system achieves high‐resolution ranging and velocity sensing while extending the measurable range beyond ...
