Observations of the Latitude and Frequency Distributions of Equatorward‐Propagating Chorus Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Rising‐tone chorus elements are traditionally known to grow from low frequencies and extend to high frequencies. Using high‐resolution waveform measurements from the Van Allen Probes, we report a novel observation: equatorward‐propagating chorus waves at a few degrees in latitude are observed at high frequencies only.

Generation of Falling‐Tone Whistler‐Mode Chorus Waves in the Earth's Magnetosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract Chorus waves are intense whistler‐mode emissions in space that play a key role in regulating energetic electron dynamics in the hazardous radiation belt. While rising‐tone chorus has been extensively studied, the generation mechanism of falling‐tone chorus remains a long‐standing problem.
