Characteristics of chitosan from Penaeus monodon on chitosan-gelatin suspension viscosity

open access: yesDental Journal
Background: Chitosan synthesized from Penaeus monodon shells was developed into a chitosan-gelatin suspension as an injectable bone substitute for socket preservation. Purpose: To investigate the characteristics of chitosan from P.

Pineapple Leaves Fiber (PALF) Crosslinked with Chitosan for Antimicrobial Properties

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2018
The goal of this study is to treat pineapple leaves fiber (PALF) with chitosan for antimicrobial properties. The treated PALF with chitosan was then crosslinked with crosslinking agent; butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) to preserve chitosan in the PALF ...

Mechanical Properties of Natural Chitosan/Hydroxyapatite/Magnetite Nanocomposites for Tissue Engineering Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chitosan (CS), hydroxyapatite (HA), and magnetite (Fe3O4) have been broadly employed for bone treatment applications. Having a hybrid biomaterial composed of the aforementioned constituents not only accumulates the useful characteristics of each ...

Biodegradable and Recyclable Luminescent Mixed‐Matrix‐Membranes, Hydrogels, and Cryogels based on Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks and Biopolymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

The preparation, characterization, and pharmacokinetic studies of chitosan nanoparticles loaded with paclitaxel/dimethyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A novel biocompatible and biodegradable drug-delivery nanoparticle (NP) has been developed to minimize the severe side effects of the poorly water-soluble anticancer drug paclitaxel (PTX) for clinical use.

Cytocompatibility of chitosan and collagen-chitosan scaffolds for tissue engineering [PDF]

open access: yesPolímeros, 2011
In this work, chitosan and collagen-chitosan porous scaffolds were produced by the freeze drying method and characterized as potential skin substitutes. Their beneficial effects on soft tissues justify the choice of both collagen and chitosan. Samples were characterized using scanning electron microscope, Fourier Transform InfraRed Spectroscopy (FTIR ...

Functional Hydrogel for Modulating Lipid Droplets and Neuroinflammation in Head Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
After TBI, elevated cholesterol levels in activated microglia lead to the accumulation of cholesterol esters in lipid droplets, exacerbating neuroinflammation. A β‐cyclodextrin‐conjugated GelMA (βCD‐GelMA) hydrogel is developed to promotes cholesterol efflux and reduces LDL influx, thereby alleviating intracellular cholesterol and lipid droplet buildup.

Antimicrobial properties of chitosan solutions, chitosan films and gelatin-chitosan films

open access: yesPolimery, 2015
The antimicrobial properties of chitosan solutions and films against selected bacteria and the effect of chitosan incorporation into gelatin films were studied. The bactericidal effect of chitosan solutions increased with time and temperature of sample incubation.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
