Production and characterization of chitosan and glycerol-chitosan films

open access: yesMRS Advances, 2018
This work presents the study of the isolation of chitin from residues of the Patagonian shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri), and its subsequent conversion to chitosan under different reaction conditions. The obtained products were characterized by evaluating their molecular weight (Mw) and degree of deacetylation (DD).

Fragmentation of Chitosan by Acids [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Fragmentation of chitosan in aqueous solution by hydrochloric acid was investigated. The kinetics of fragmentation, the number of chain scissions, and polydispersity of the fragments were followed by viscometry and size exclusion chromatography. The chemical structure and the degree of N‐acetylation (DA) of the original chitosan and its fragments were ...

Autoclaving Achieves pH-Neutralization, Hydrogelation, and Sterilization of Chitosan Hydrogels in One Step

open access: yesMacromol
Conventionally, chitosan hydrogels are acidic and contain toxic chemicals because chitosan is soluble only in acidic solvents and requires toxic additives such as chemical crosslinkers and polymerization agents to fabricate chitosan hydrogels.

Photothermal Hydrogel with Mn3O4 Nanoparticles Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration by Scavenging ROS and Regulating Extracellular Matrix Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The MPTT‐nanozyme‐hydrogel system (Mn3O4@ChS‐HA) provides a multifunctional therapeutic strategy for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), effectively targeting oxidative stress and enhancing AF repair by restoring extracellular matrix (ECM) and redox homeostasis.
