Microbial biofilms are considerably more resistant to antibiotics than planktonic cells. It has been reported that chitosan coupling with the aminoglycoside antibiotic streptomycin dramatically disrupted biofilms of several Gram-positive bacteria.

Kinetic Modeling of an Enzyme Membrane Reactor for the Selective Production of Oligosaccharides
An enzyme membrane reactor is an attractive tool for producing oligosaccharides from biomass-based polysaccharides. However, kinetic modeling and reactor design based on the rate equations have rarely been reported for enzyme membrane reactors because of

We report an electrochemical biosensor that employs biopanning‐derived affinity peptides as selective receptors on a multifunctional chitosan–zwitterionic–gold nanoparticle (CS–ZI–AuNPs) nanohydrogel interface. The CS–ZI–AuNPs nanohydrogel exhibits antifouling properties, abundant sites for stable peptide immobilization, and efficient electrochemical ...

Chitosanases from Family 46 of Glycoside Hydrolases: From Proteins to Phenotypes
Chitosanases, enzymes that catalyze the endo-hydrolysis of glycolytic links in chitosan, are the subject of numerous studies as biotechnological tools to generate low molecular weight chitosan (LMWC) or chitosan oligosaccharides (CHOS) from native, high

Nitric oxide-releasing chitosan oligosaccharides as antibacterial agents
Secondary amine-functionalized chitosan oligosaccharides of different molecular weights (i.e., ~2500, 5000, 10000) were synthesized by grafting 2-methyl aziridine from the primary amines on chitosan oligosaccharides, followed by reaction with nitric oxide (NO) gas under basic conditions to yield N-diazeniumdiolate NO donors.

Mucin Glycoprotein Nanoparticles Enable a Selective Antisense Therapy for Oncogenic MicroRNAs
Mucin glycoproteins are turned into nanoparticles by employing synthetic DNA strands, which have a dual function: they stabilize the nanoparticles and act as binding sites for intracellular miRNA‐21. Thus, upon internalization into tumor cells, these mucin nanoparticles can deplete miRNA‐21 from the cytosol, which induces apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.
