Pelvic spine reduction affects diet but not gill raker morphology in two polymorphic brook stickleback (Culaea inconstans) populations

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
The extent of parallelism might generally be lower in between‐species versus between‐population comparisons. In two populations of brook sticklebacks, we found that diet differences were associated with pelvic spine reduction, but we found no evidence of any difference in gill raker morphology associated with pelvic spine reduction. This is in contrast

Comparative study of algal community in African sharptooth catfish (Clarias gariepinus, Burchell 1822) and Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus, Linnaeus 1758) farming ponds

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 149-164, April 2023., 2023
In the fish farming station, algae specific richness varies according to the water collection point (rearing pond, evacuation canal and decantation pond). Algae contribute differentially to fish diets: biomass is mostly used by Nile Tilapia (herbivorous) than African catfish (omnivorous).

Bioinformatic analysis and relative expression of hyd and fdx during H2 production in microalgae

open access: yesPhycological Research, Volume 71, Issue 1, Page 37-55, January 2023., 2023
SUMMARY Microalgae have been positioned as excellent models for producing new sources of energy (biofuels and biohydrogen). Some investigations in these biological models have been directed to know if the enzymes ferredoxin (FDX) and hydrogenase (HYD) are involved in the algae producing different concentrations of molecular hydrogen (H2).

Identification of biofilm composition covering lime-based materials [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
This paper aims at identification of biofilms composition taken from lime and lime-cement plasters. The samples of plasters were exposed to natural weathering for more than three years to weather conditions of Prague as a representative of Central ...

Microbial community associated with the crustose lichen Rhizocarpon geographicum L. (DC.) living on oceanic seashore: A large source of diversity revealed by using multiple isolation methods

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, Page 856-872, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Recently, the study of the interactions within a microcosm between hosts and their associated microbial communities drew an unprecedented interest arising from the holobiont concept. Lichens, a symbiotic association between a fungus and an alga, are redefined as complex ecosystems considering the tremendous array of associated microorganisms ...

White spot syndrome virus host range and impact on transmission

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 14, Issue 4, Page 1843-1860, September 2022., 2022
Abstract White spot syndrome virus (WSSV), the etiological agent of white spot disease (WSD), is a significant pathogen affecting shrimp farming industry worldwide. White spot syndrome virus is a generalist virus mainly infecting decapod crustaceans. The aims of this review were to: (1) Re‐evaluate and update the status of reported WSSV host and vector

Evaluation of Six Novel Protein Sources on Apparent Digestibility in Pacific White Shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
This study is aimed at evaluating the apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of six novel protein sources in Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), including black soldier fly larvae meal (BSFLM), Chlorella vulgaris meal (CM), cottonseed protein concentrate (CPC), Tenebrio molitor meal (TM), Clostridium autoethanogenum protein (CAP), and ...

Genotypic diversity of Dictyosphaerium-morphospecies (Chlorellaceae, Trebouxiophyceae) in African inland waters, including the description of four new genera. [PDF]

open access: bronzeFottea, 2012
Trebouxiophytes of the Dictyosphaerium-morphotype from inland waters of Africa were studied using a polyphasic approach of SSU and ITS rDNA phylogeny, secondary structure of the ITS and observations made with a light microscope. Although the morphological criteria for differentiating species and genera are scarce, the genetic diversity of these algae ...

Effects of Nutrient Content and Nitrogen to Phosphorous Ratio on the Growth, Nutrient Removal and Desalination Properties of the Green Alga Coelastrum morus on a Laboratory Scale

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
In wastewater, nutrient concentrations and salinity vary substantially, however, the optimal N:P ratio for the treatment using microalgae is not well described.
