Monolithic Carbide-Derived Carbon Films for Micro-Supercapacitors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Microbatteries with dimensions of tens to hundreds of micrometers that are produced by common microfabrication techniques are poised to provide integration of power sources onto electronic devices, but they still suffer from poor cycle lifetime, as ...

Photoswitching Conduction in Framework Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This mini‐review summarizes recent advances in state‐of‐the‐art proton and electron conduction in framework materials that can be remotely and reversibly switched on and off by light. It discusses the various photoswitching conduction mechanisms and the strategies employed to enhance photoswitched conductivity.

Unraveling Quantitative Sensing Mechanism and Predictive Molecular Metrics for High‐Performance OFET Amine Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel chloro boron subphthalocyanine/polymer blend OFET sensor achieving 0.005 ppb limit of detection for ammonia at room temperature and high selectivity against similar amines. An original theoretical framework is proposed to describe the sensing mechanism, relating analyte molecular volume and Lewis basicity to sensor ...

Enrichment and Identification of Askarel oil (PCB blend) degrading bacteria enriched from landfill sites in Edo State, Nigeria. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Microbial degradation following aerobic biodegradation is one of the means used by microorganisms for the removal of persistent organic pollutants from the soil. Bacterial species namely: Pseudomonas, Micrococcus Arthrobacter and Acinetobacter capable of

Understanding the Role of Superhydrophobicity and Superhydrophilicity in Salt‐Spray Corrosion of Nanosecond Pulsed Laser‐Textured AA2024 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.

The Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Chlorination of Arene, Alcohol, Halobenzene, and Peroxide Catalyzed by Fe–Ba Binary Oxides Using Hydrochloric Acid as Chlorine Source and Aqueous H2O2 as Oxidant

open access: yesMolecules
A series of Fe–Ba mixed oxides, including a pure Fe-containing sample as a reference, have been synthesized via a sol–gel process using Fe3+ or Fe2+ salts and BaSO4 as raw materials, with Pluronic P123 serving as a template.

Fate of antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes during wastewater chlorination: implication for antibiotic resistance control.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
This study investigated fates of nine antibiotic-resistant bacteria as well as two series of antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater treated by various doses of chlorine (0, 15, 30, 60, 150 and 300 mg Cl2 min/L). The results indicated that chlorination

Analysis of protein chlorination by mass spectrometry

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2019
Chlorination of tyrosine is a commonly known effect/consequence of myeloperoxidase activity at sites of inflammation, and detection of 3-chlorotyrosine has been used as biomarker for inflammatory diseases.

Secondary Effects of Hypochlorite Treatment on the Emerging Pollutant Candesartan: The Formation of Degradation Byproducts and Their Toxicological Profiles

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In recent years, many studies have reported the frequent detection of antihypertensive agents such as sartans (olmesartan, valsartan, irbesartan and candesartan) in the influents and effluents of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and in the superficial

A Systematic Review of the Evidence for the Sustainability of Household Water Treatment Interventions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This systematic review assesses the quantity and quality of evidence for the sustainability of household water treatment (HWT) since the World Health Organization (WHO) recently endorsed HWT based on growing evidence of HWT's ability to improve microbial
