Artificial Receptor in Synthetic Cells Performs Transmembrane Activation of Proteolysis
Transmembrane signaling is the hallmark of living cells and is among the highest challenges for the design of synthetic cells. Herein, an artificial receptor based on the chemistry of self‐immolative linkers is used to communicate information across the lipid bilayer, for transmembrane activation of enzymatic activity. Abstract The design of artificial,

A van der Waals density functional study of chloroform and bromoform on graphene [PDF]
A calculational study of the trihalomethanes chloroform (CHCl_3) and bromoform (CHBr_3) adsorbed on graphene is presented. The study uses the van der Waals density functional method vdW-DF to obtain adsorption energies and adsorption structures for these molecules of environmental concern.

Genome Sequence of Dehalobacter UNSWDHB, a Chloroform-Dechlorinating Bacterium
The chloroform-respiring bacterium Dehalobacter UNSWDHB was isolated from subsurface soil contaminated with a mixture of organohalides, including chloroform. Here, we present its 3.2-Mb genome.

Light‐Triggered Protease‐Mediated Release of Actin‐Bound Cargo from Synthetic Cells
TEV Prtoease‐mediated Releasable Actin‐binding Protein (TRAP) is a protein‐based platform consisting of a cargo tightly bound to reconstituted actin networks in synthetic cells which can be proteolyticly released from the bound actin, followed by its secretion through membrane translocation mediated by a cell‐penetrating peptide.

Kinetics of the photolysis of benzenetricarbonylchromium(0) in chloroform [PDF]
In contrast to the photolysis of Cr(CO)3(C6H6) in nonhalogenated solvents, in which the products are CrL(CO)2(C6H6) in the presence of a donor L, or Cr(CO)6 and C6H6 if no donor is present, the photo-reaction in chloroform yields CrCl3.

The Effect of Chloroform Exposure on Mitochondrial DNA Copy Number [PDF]
Indigenous communities in Canada often struggle with access to clean drinking water. Chlorination is the primary water disinfection method in these communities, but due to high levels of organic carbon in the water pre-disinfection, the likelihood of ...

The successful in situ polymerization of microtubules in giant polymer‐lipid hybrid vesicles is illustrated. The microtubules formed in the giant hybrid vesicles exhibit different morphologies including lumenal network formation and membrane association. Abstract Creating artificial cells with a dynamic cytoskeleton, akin to those in living cells, is a

Preparation of Monodisperse and Highly Coercive L10-FePt Nanoparticles Dispersible in Nonpolar Organic Solvents [PDF]
A method to prepare monodisperse and highly coercive L10-FePt nanoparticles which are dispersible in nonpolar organic solvents such as toluene, chloroform, and hexane was developed. By vigorously stirring the SiO2-coated L10-FePt nanoparticles synthesized by the SiO2-nanoreactor method (Appl. Phys. Lett.
