Assessment of Spatial and Temporal Nitrate Dynamics in a Medium‐Sized Watershed Using SWAT‐RIVE

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 12, December 2025.
Nitrate dynamics in a catchment with multiple anthropogenic pressures were evaluated with SWAT‐RIVE. The results show that 54% of soil nitrate is removed by denitrification, mainly in agricultural areas and wetlands, 8.5% of nitrate inputs to soils reach the river system, and 1.7% is removed by in‐stream processes.

Nutritional status response of Daphania laevis and Moina micura from a tropical reservoir to different algal diets: Scenedesmus quadricauda and Ankistrodesmus gracilis

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2001
The accumulation of lipid reserves was investigated in two common cladoceran species typical of neotropical freshwaters. Experiments were performed in order to measure differential accumulation of lipid reserves in response to two algal diets, S ...

A glimpse into darkness: Diversity of culturable cyanobacteria, green algae and fungi from subaerial cave biofilms

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 61, Issue 6, Page 1699-1717, December 2025.
Abstract Caves and hypogean environments provide stable microclimates characterized by uniform temperatures, constant humidity, and low light levels. In such sites, extremely low light irradiance can support the growth of subaerial biofilms (SABs) dominated by unique photosynthetic communities of cyanobacteria accompanied by chlorophytes, heterotrophic

Exploiting algal strains for robust cross‐domain phytoplankton classification via deep learning

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, Volume 23, Issue 11, Page 815-833, November 2025.
Abstract Phytoplankton species are essential bioindicators for evaluating the status of freshwater ecosystems in accordance with the EU Water Framework Directive. However, manual identification of phytoplankton is time‐consuming and requires taxonomic expertise. Deep learning (DL) offers promising tools for automating the identification, but challenges
