The aggregation of chlorophyll a

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1964
Abstract 1. 1. Aggregation of chlorophyll a in various nonpolar solvents has been demonstrated, and from the IR spectra the probable site of the hooking together of the molecules has been deduced. 2. 2. If chlorophyll a exists in the cell in a completely nonpolar milieu (as the visible spectroscopic studies suggest), then CCl4 solutions of ...

Chlorophyll a/b binding-specificity in water-soluble chlorophyll protein

Nature Plants, 2018
We altered the chlorophyll (Chl) binding sites in various versions of water-soluble chlorophyll protein (WSCP) by amino acid exchanges to alter their preferences for either Chl a or Chl b. WSCP is ideally suited for this mutational analysis since it forms a tetrameric complex with only four identical Chl binding sites.

Synthesis of chlorophyll-c derivatives by modifying natural chlorophyll-a

Photosynthesis Research, 2015
Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) was extracted from cyanobacterial cells and modified to methyl pyropheophorbide-a. The 3-vinyl-chlorin was transformed to zinc complex of the corresponding 3-acetyl-porphyrin. The zinc porphyrin was oxidized to give cis-7,8- and 17,18-dihydroxy-chlorins as well cis-7,8-cis-17,18-tetrahydroxybacteriochlorin.

Organization of chlorophyll a in bilayer membranes. The chlorophyll a/dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine system

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1986
In order to investigate the relative importance of the hydrophobic and headgroup interactions of chlorophyll a in phospholipid bilayers, we have carried out differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and deuterium (2H) and phosphorus (31P) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments on the multilamellar system of chlorophyll a in ...

A modified chlorophyll absorption continuum index for chlorophyll estimation

Journal of Zhejiang University-SCIENCE A, 2006
There is increasing interest in using hyperspectral data for quantitative characterization of vegetation in spatial and temporal scopes. Many spectral indices are being developed to improve vegetation sensitivity by minimizing the background influence.

Simultaneous determination of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b by derivative spectrophotometry

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2004
Chlorophyll a (Chl a) and chlorophyll b (Chl b) plant pigments, which are important in the food industry and are beneficial as environmental pollution indicators, have been extracted with a novel solvent mixture (1:1 v/v acetone-propanol) not containing chloroform and simultaneously determined by first-derivative spectrophotometry.

The absorption spectrum of chlorophyll a and the chlorophyll/dioxane and chlorophyll/benzoquinone interactions

Chemical Physics Letters, 1974
Abstract A molecular orbital calculation, using the “free-electron-network” method, is reported for the absorption spectrum of chlorophyll a and the complexes chlorophyll/ p -dioxane and chlorophyll/ p -benzoquinone. For chlorophyll a , our results are in good agreement with experiment and are substantially the same as those obtained by Weiss ...

Chlorophyll Breakdown – On a Nonfluorescent Chlorophyll Catabolite from Spinach

Helvetica Chimica Acta, 2001
In extracts of senescent leaves of spinach (Spinacia oleracea) that had degreened naturally after the onset of flowering, four colorless compounds, which had characteristic UV/VIS properties of nonfluorescent chlorophyll catabolites (NCCs), were detected by HPLC. From the extracts of 58.7 g of senescent leaves of Sp.

Conversion of Chlorophyll b to Chlorophyll a by Isolated Cucumber Etioplasts

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1993
Chlorophyllide b was converted to chlorophyll a when incubated with cucumber etioplasts in the presence of phytol, ATP, and MgCl2. Chlorophyll a was identified by retention time on HPLC, absorption, fluorescence, and excitation spectra. It is suggested that the interconversion of chlorophyll a and b plays a significant role in the establishment of the ...

Evidence for a structural role for chlorophyll in chlorophyll-protein complexes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure, 1979
1. Chymotrypsin treatment of spinach chloroplast membranes does not change the electrophoretic mobility of either chlorophyll-protein complex 1 or 2. 2. The extraction of lipids with 80% acetone after treatment of the membranes with chymotrypsin reveals that the polypeptide components of both chlorophyll-protein complexes had been extensively digested.
