Tetrahedron, 1981Abstract A synthesis of chlorophyll-a from a relay degradation product, rhodochlorin dimethyl ester, is described. Key steps involve formation of methyl pheophorbide-a by thallium(III) promoted photocyclization of the corresponding chlorin-6- β -keto-esler, and magnesium(II) insertion using Eschenmoser's BHT method.

Synthesis of chlorophyll-f analogs possessing the 2-formyl group by modifying chlorophyll-a
Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2014A methyl group at the 2-position of methyl mesopyropheophorbide-a was transformed to the 2-formyl group to give methyl mesopyropheophorbide-f, one of the chlorophyll-f analogs. The 2-formylation moved the redmost electronic absorption band in a solution to a longer wavelength and the bathochromic shift was comparable to that by the 3-formylation.

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2014Bisphenol A (BPA), as an emerging environmental pollutant, is potentially harmful to plant growth. Chlorophyll (Chl) is critical in photosynthesis that provides matter and energy for plant growth. How BPA affects the chlorophyll content remains largely unknown. Here, the effects of BPA on Chl synthesis in soybean seedlings were investigated.
