Analyzing the Impact of Evolving Combustion Conditions on the Composition of Wildfire Emissions Using Satellite Data

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 50, Issue 23, 16 December 2023., 2023
Abstract Wildfires have become larger and more frequent because of climate change, increasing their impact on air pollution. Air quality forecasts and climate models do not currently account for changes in the composition of wildfire emissions during the commonly observed progression from more flaming to smoldering combustion.

Portable broadband cavity-enhanced spectrometer utilizing Kalman filtering: application to real-time, in situ monitoring of glyoxal and nitrogen dioxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This article describes the development and field application of a portable broadband cavity enhanced spectrometer (BBCES) operating in the spectral range of 440-480 nm for sensitive, real-time, in situ measurement of ambient glyoxal (CHOCHO) and nitrogen

Solid-state formation of CO and H2CO via the CHOCHO + H reaction [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
ABSTRACT Glycolaldehyde (CHOCH2OH) and ethylene glycol (HOCH2CH2OH) are among many complex organic molecules detected in the interstellar medium (ISM). Astrophysical models proposed very often that the formation of these compounds would be directly linked to the hydrogenation of glyoxal (CHOCHO), a potential precursor which is not yet ...

Comparative Analysis of Atmospheric Glyoxal Column Densities Retrieved from MAX-DOAS Observations in Pakistan and during MAD-CAT Field Campaign in Mainz, Germany

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2016
Photolysis of glyoxal (CHOCHO) and other volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the presence of NOx results in tropospheric ozone and secondary organic pollutants formation. Glyoxal, with a relatively short lifetime, plays an important role in VOC formation

Development of an incoherent broadband cavity-enhanced absorption spectrometer for measurements of ambient glyoxal and NO2 in a polluted urban environment [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2019
We report the development of an instrument for simultaneous fast measurements of glyoxal (CHOCHO) and NO2 based on incoherent broadband cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy (IBBCEAS) in the 438–465 nm wavelength region.

The glyoxal budget and its contribution to organic aerosol for Los Angeles, California, during CalNex 2010 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Recent laboratory and field studies have indicated that glyoxal is a potentially large contributor to secondary organic aerosol mass. We present in situ glyoxal measurements acquired with a recently developed, high sensitivity spectroscopic instrument ...

MAX-DOAS detection of glyoxal during ICARTT 2004 [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2007
The direct detection of glyoxal (CHOCHO), the smallest α-dicarbonyl, in the open atmosphere by active differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) has recently been demonstrated (Volkamer et al., 2005a) and triggered the very recent ...

Atmospheric Impacts of COVID-19 on NOx and VOC Levels over China Based on TROPOMI and IASI Satellite Data and Modeling

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
China was the first country to undergo large-scale lockdowns in response to the pandemic in early 2020 and a progressive return to normalization after April 2020.
