Architectural choices in LOCKSS networks
Library Hi Tech, 2014Purpose – The LOCKSS digital preservation technology collects, preserves and disseminates content in peer-to-peer networks. Many such networks are in use. The Global LOCKSS Network (GLN) is an open network with many nodes in which libraries preserve academic journals and books that they purchase. The CLOCKSS network is a

Choices in database workstation-server architecture
Proceedings of 1993 IEEE 17th International Computer Software and Applications Conference COMPSAC '93, 2002The workstation-server model is emerging as the standard computing environment for engineering and scientific applications. Most object-oriented database systems choose either the object-server architecture, in which individual objects are passed between the server and the workstation, or the page-server architecture, in which a disk page is the unit ...

Sub-Threshold Design and Architectural Choices
2015 IEEE Computer Society Annual Symposium on VLSI, 2015Standard cell design and memory design need to be optimized for sub-threshold operation. It is interesting to revisit digital block architectures when implemented using these sub-threshold basic bricks. Out of many possible architectures for the same logic function (i.e. Multiplier), it turns out that there are optimal sub-threshold architectures.

Explaining Architectural Choices to Non-architects
2010Explaining and motivating architectural choices are crucial points both in real system development and in computer scientists education. Stakeholders and students should fully understand from a high level perspective the rationale behind basic architectural choices. The paper proposes a communication approach that is complementary to established design

Persuasion, manipulation, choice architecture and dark patterns
2023The purpose of this chapter is to introduce and discuss the regulation of behaviour modification through the design of choice architecture in light of European Union data protection law (GDPR) and marketing law (UCPD). In data protection law 'consent' must reflect the data subject's genuine and informed choice.

Grounding for Ontological Architecture Quality: Metaphysical Choices
2016Information systems (IS) are getting larger and more complex, becoming ‘gargantuan’. IS practices have not evolved in step to handle the development and maintenance of these gargantuan systems, leading to a variety of quality issues.

Choices for Service Architecture
2000A client will only be looking for an implementation of an interface, and the implementation can be done in many different ways, as discussed in this chapter. In the previous chapter we discussed the roles of service proxy and service backend and briefly talked about how different implementations could place different amounts of processing in the proxy ...

This chapter is about cloud architectures, freedom of choice, and the legitimate scope of cloud brokers in softly nudging end-users and cloud providers—as a new form of soft paternalism—that can help them make better decisions without coercing or neglecting their choices.
