Total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio and monocyte/HDL cholesterol ratio are related with subclinical hypothyroidism in polycystic ovary syndrome

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi, 2021
There is an association between serum thyrotropin (TSH) and lipid profile. However, there is a little information regarding the relation between subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH), atherogenic indices and inflammation in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS ...

Developmental Environmental Chronotoxicity by Polystyrene Nanoplastics Exacerbates High‐Fat Diet‐Induced Pediatric MAFLD Through Circadian Disruption and Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polystyrene nanoplastics exacerbate high‐fat diet‐induced metabolic dysfunction in an age‐dependent manner. Juvenile mice exhibit greater susceptibility, characterized by circadian disruption, impaired mitochondrial function, reduced energy metabolism, and enhanced hepatic lipid accumulation.

Everything in Moderation: Investigating the U-Shaped Link Between HDL Cholesterol and Adverse Outcomes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Despite historical evidence suggesting an inverse association between HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) and adverse cardiovascular events, pharmacological efforts to increase HDL-C and improve outcomes have not been successful.

A Facial Foundation Model for Clinical Biomarker Prediction and Real‐World Mobile Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
MedicalFaceFound is a facial foundation model developed through three‐stage progressive pre‐training, adapting representations from general vision to facial structure and clinical phenotypes. Using a single facial image, it estimates 62 biomarkers across multiple physiological systems and supports downstream risk prediction for cardiovascular ...

Cholesterol and the risk of grade-specific prostate cancer incidence: evidence from two large prospective cohort studies with up to 37 years' follow up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
<b>Background</b> High cholesterol may be a modifiable risk factor for prostate cancer but results have been inconsistent and subject to potential "reverse causality" where undetected disease modifies cholesterol prior to diagnosis.<p ...

Relationship of the parameters of body cholesterol metabolism with plasma levels of HDL cholesterol and the major HDL apoproteins.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1985
The inverse relationship between plasma levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) and coronary heart disease rates has suggested that HDL might influence body stores of cholesterol.

Restores Aβ Clearance by Overcoming PCSK9–LRP1 Dysregulation and TRIB3‐Mediated Autophagy Blockade in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PCSK9 upregulation in cerebrovascular endothelial cells and microglia destabilizes the Aβ transporter LRP1, while TRIB3‐associated autophagy blockade further limits intracellular Aβ degradation. A RAP‐modified tea‐polyphenol nanoparticle co‐delivers siPCSK9 and siTRIB3 to restore LRP1‐mediated Aβ efflux and autophagy‐dependent degradation, reducing Aβ ...

HDL Cholesterol Efflux Capacity is Impaired in Severe Short-Term Hypothyroidism Despite Increased HDL Cholesterol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Context: Severe hypothyroidism has profound effects on lipoprotein metabolism including high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol elevations but effects on HDL function metrics are unknown. Objective: To determine the impact of severe short-term ...

Phosphatidylinositol promotes cholesterol transport and excretion

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2003
Administration of phosphatidylinositol (PI) to New Zealand white rabbits increases HDL negative charge and stimulates reverse cholesterol transport. Intravenously administered PI (10 mg/kg) associated almost exclusively with the HDL fraction in rabbits ...

Oral Recombinant Human Collagen III Protects Gastric Mucosa via G‐Quadruplex‐Mediated Activation of the Pla2g4a‐Prostaglandin Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Orally administered recombinant human type III collagen protects the gastric mucosa from ethanol‐induced injury by coordinating redox homeostasis, epithelial barrier repair, and arachidonic acid–prostaglandin metabolism. Gastric digestion releases the pentapeptide GPAEF, which interacts with the Pla2g4a promoter G‐quadruplex in a structure‐dependent ...
