Functional Hydrogel for Modulating Lipid Droplets and Neuroinflammation in Head Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
After TBI, elevated cholesterol levels in activated microglia lead to the accumulation of cholesterol esters in lipid droplets, exacerbating neuroinflammation. A β‐cyclodextrin‐conjugated GelMA (βCD‐GelMA) hydrogel is developed to promotes cholesterol efflux and reduces LDL influx, thereby alleviating intracellular cholesterol and lipid droplet buildup.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

Red blood cell lipid distribution in the pathophysiology and laboratory evaluation of chorea-acanthocytosis and McLeod syndrome patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
The core neuroacanthocytosis syndromes, i.e., chorea-acanthocytosis/VPS13A disease (ChAc) and McLeod syndrome/XK disease (MLS), are respectively due to mutations in VPS13A and XK genes and share similar manifestations including the formation of ...

Next‐Generation Bio‐Reducible Lipids Enable Enhanced Vaccine Efficacy in Malaria and Primate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Structure–activity relationship (SAR) optimization of bio‐reducible ionizable lipids enables the development of highly effective lipid nanoparticle (LNP) mRNA vaccines. Lead LNPs show superior tolerability and antibody responses in rodents and primates, outperforming approved COVID‐19 vaccine lipids.

The Influence of Lipid Electric Charge on the Binding of Aβ(1–42) Amyloid Peptide to Bilayers in the Liquid-Ordered State

open access: yesBiomolecules
The amyloidogenic Aβ peptides are widely considered as a pathogenic agent in Alzheimer’s disease. Aβ(1-42) would form aggregates of amyloid fibrils on the neuron plasma membranes, thus perturbing neuronal functionality.
