Cholesteryl esters in flue-cured tobacco

Experientia, 1967

Cholesteryl ester transfer protein and atherosclerosis

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2000
Plasma cholesteryl ester transfer protein facilitates the transfer of cholesteryl ester from HDL to apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins. Its significance in atherosclerosis has been debated in studies of human population genetics and transgenic mice.

Cholesteryl esters in human malignant neoplasms

International Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2003
Cholesteryl esters (CholE) were detected in human malignant neoplasms by means of in vitro nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Spectroscopic analysis of the total lipid extracts obtained from cerebral tumors revealed appreciable amount of esterified cholesterol in high grade gliomas such as glioblastomas and anaplastic oligodendrogliomas ...

Effect of estrogens on the activities of cholesteryl ester synthetase and cholesteryl ester hydrolases in pigeon aorta

Steroids, 1977
This study is the first to report the effect of conjugated equine estrogens on the acitivity of cholesteryl ester synthetase and cholesteryl ester hydrolases in the aorta. In spontaneously atherosclerosis-susceptible White Carneau pigeons, estrogens significantly decreased (P less 0.01) the activity of cholesteryl ester synthetase and increased (P less

Cholesteryl esters of the brain in demyelinating diseases

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1974
Abstract The cholesteryl ester (CE) content and composition of demyelination fields in multiple sclerosis (M.S. plaques), carbon monoxide-induced myelinopathy and in subacute sclerosing leucoencephalitis (LESS) was determined. The results obtained lead to following conclusions: 1. 1. The CE spectrum of M.S.

Arterial Enzymes of Cholesteryl Ester Metabolism

1978
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses arterial enzymes of cholesteryl ester metabolism. The atherosclerotic plaque is characterized by lipid accumulation and a variable connective-tissue reaction. The important feature of atheroma lipids is the predominance of cholesterol, particularly in its esterified form.

Determination of the Proportion of Cholesteryl Ester in Plasma

Annals of Clinical Biochemistry: International Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 1978
In normal human plasma the proportion of choles terol present as cholesteryl ester is very constant, but in certain clinical conditions, such as liver disease, a reduction may occur. Measurement of plasma cholesteryl ester is usually achieved indirectly as the difference between total cholesterol and free choles terol, which inevitably leads to a ...

A simple method for the preparation of cholesteryl esters

Lipids, 1977
AbstractA simple and convenient procedure for the synthesis of cholesterol esters of long chain saturated and unsaturated fatty acids is presented. Condensation is achieved with thionyl chloride as a catalyst.

Synthesis of the Cholesteryl Ester Prodrugs Cholesteryl Ibuprofen and Cholesteryl Flufenamate and their Formulation into Phospholipid Microemulsions

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1994
Phospholipid micoremulsions have been suggested as a drug-delivery system for hydrophobic compounds. In this study hydrophobicity was achieved by derivatizing with cholesterol. Cholesteryl ibuprofen (3) and cholesteryl flufenamate (4) were synthesized. 3 was isolated as an amorphous, white solid with a melting range of 114-120 degrees C. 4 was isolated

Interaction of lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase and cholesteryl ester transfer protein in the transport of cholesteryl ester into sphingomyelin liposomes

Biochemistry, 1980
When isolated lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase was incubated with cholesterol-lecithin liposomes in the presence of apolipoprotein A-1, cholesteryl ester accumulated until a maximal ester/lecithin weight ratio of 0.03 was reached. This was independent of the amount of enzyme present or the proportion of cholesterol relative to lecithin.
