Olfactory Tuft Cells Are Critical to Basal Inflammation, Innate Immune Response to Viral Infection, and Modulation of Quiescent Stem Cell Activation, Proliferation and Differentiation

Olfactory tuft cells communicate with other mucosal cells in maintaining olfactory epithelial immunity and sensory function. Disruption of tuft cell signalling pathways causes a skewed immune response, leading to heightened inflammation and increased activation of the quiescent stem cells, which are further exacerbated by viral infection.

Persistent in vitro nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction produced by repeated paclitaxel doses

Repeated paclitaxel exposure causes long‐lasting nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction in adult sensory neurons. Using a long‐term primary nociceptor culture, we show that hyperexcitability is mediated by sequential upregulation of NaV1.8, TRPV1, TRPA1, and TRPM8 channels.

Using 1H NMR metabolomics, we measured polar and lipid metabolites from human blood neutrophils from people with frailty (n = 31, mean age 84Y), people with rheumatoid arthritis (n = 16, mean age 55Y), robust older (n = 24, mean age 66Y) and healthy younger people (n = 21, mean age 22Y).
