Growth Differentiation Factor 15 Induces Gastric Fundus Contraction Involving Cholinergic Excitation: Morphofunctional Evidence in Rodent Models

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 29, Issue 11, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF15) is a peptide from the transforming growth factor (TGF)‐β superfamily, typically found at low levels in mammalian tissues, but significantly upregulated during cellular stress or injury. Initially recognised for its role in inducing anorexia and vomiting, GDF15 is now seen as a broader regulator of ...

The Serine/Threonine Kinase NDR2 Regulates Integrin Signaling, Synapse Formation, and Synaptic Plasticity in the Hippocampus

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 6, June 2025.
Ndr2 participates in the T788/789 phosphorylation of the integrin β1 integrin subunit. Ndr2 deficiency reduces synaptic density, diminishes CA1 LTP, and impairs spatial memory. Activation of integrins restores the plasticity impairment of Ndr2 deficient mice. Ndr2 is involved in integrin‐dependent synapse formation and plasticity in the hippocampus CA1.

Altered Vesicular Acetylcholine Transporter Expression Regulates Acetylcholine Abundance in the Brain of Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 6, June 2025.
The vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT) packages and transports the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh) into synaptic vesicles for exocytosis, and its activity is necessary for essential life functions such as locomotion and cognition. Yet, the mechanism through which this important protein mediates ACh release is not fully understood. Here we
