The Functions of the Multiproduct and Rapidly Evolving \u3cem\u3edec-1\u3c/em\u3e Eggshell Gene Are Conserved Between Evolutionarily Distant Species of Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The Drosophila dec-1 gene encodes multiple proteins that are required for female fertility and proper eggshell morphogenesis. Genetic and immunolocalization data suggest that the different DEC-1 proteins are functionally distinct.

Amniotic membrane is a potential regenerative option for chronic non‐healing wounds: a report of five cases receiving dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane allograft

open access: yesInternational Wound Journal, 2015
A case series of five patients with a total of six chronic non‐healing wounds (>30 day duration) were non‐randomly selected to evaluate the performance, safety and handling properties of dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane allograft, an amniotic ...

Perfluorooctanoic Acid Exposure Causes Macrophage Ammonia Retention and Induces Spontaneous Miscarriages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PFOA exposure induces pregnancy loss by promoting glutaminolysis, which further causes ammonia accumulation in macrophages. Cellular ammonia retention results in damage to mitochondria and lysosomes, which leads to cell death eventually. Impaired lysosomes also decrease the secretion of the Cathepsin B (CTSB), and attenuate macrophage infiltration and ...

The Egg of \u3ci\u3eStylogaster Neglecta\u3c/i\u3e Williston (Diptera: Conopidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Adults of both sexes and the previously unknown eggs of the parasitoid conopid fly Stylogaster neglecta Williston are illustrated and measurements are provided, including the total clutch size and the lengths and widths of eggs from random ...

Dynamics of the Mammalian Placental Metabolome in Placentogenesis and Embryonic Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies three metabolic stages (E8.5, E9.5–10.5, E11.5–14.5) and two transition periods (E8.5–9.5, E10.5–11.5) in mouse placental development. NAD(H) emerges as a key dynamic metabolite that enhances embryonic growth through accelerated segmentation and increased proliferation of mouse embryonic stem cell (mESC)‐induced presomitic ...

A comprehensive analysis of the chorion locus in silkmoth

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2015
Despite more than 40 years of intense study, essential features of the silkmoth chorion (eggshell) are still not fully understood. To determine the precise structure of the chorion locus, we performed extensive EST analysis, constructed a bacterial ...

5‐Hydroxymethylcytosine Dynamics Reveals Coordinated Reprogramming of Parental Genomes and X Chromosome Dosage Balance in Mouse SCNT Embryos

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Genome‐wide, high‐resolution profiling of hydroxymethylation in mouse SCNT embryos reveals a transient, allele‐symmetric 5hmC reprogramming pattern distinct from natural embryos, with X‐chromosomes and imprinting control regions resistant to proper remodeling.

Review of the Genus \u3ci\u3eMacdunnoa\u3c/i\u3e (Ephemeroptera: Heptageniidae) with Description of a New Species From Florida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The imago, nymph, and egg of Macdunnaa brunnea n. sp. are described from the south- eastern U.S. Heptagenia persimpiex is transferred to Macdunnoa and additional diagonostic characters are given for this species and for Macdunnoa nipawinia.

Decoding Human Placental Cellular and Molecular Responses to Obesity and Fetal Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Women with obesity often deliver large‐for‐gestational‐age (LGA) infants. Single‐nucleus RNA sequencing of term placenta reveals that hypoxia and TNF‐α signaling in syncytiotrophoblasts are featured in maternal obesity, but inflammatory signatures in Hofbauer cells and response to lipid or carbohydrate metabolism in fibroblasts are specific to LGA.

Onset of human preterm and term birth is related to unique inflammatory transcriptome profiles at the maternal fetal interface. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BackgroundPreterm birth is a main determinant of neonatal mortality and morbidity and a major contributor to the overall mortality and burden of disease.
