Innate behaviours shape generalist herbivore host choice and feeding patterns independent of plant defences

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant–herbivore interactions are typically examined through plant defence and herbivore performance, yet individual herbivore behavioural mechanisms underlying these interactions are rarely considered alongside plant traits.

PARAMETRICAL CALCULATION TECHNIQUE OF THE NEW MIRROR PLANANASTIGMAT COMPOSITION

open access: yesВесці Нацыянальнай акадэміі навук Беларусі: Серыя фізіка-тэхнічных навук, 2017
A four-mirror planaanastigmat calculation method is presented. Design feature of new mirror composition is existence of the afoсal scheme from the first two mirrors.

Optical-Algorithm Co-Design of a Lightweight Petzval Star Tracker with Selective Asymmetric Aberration Suppression

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Traditional high-precision star trackers rely on long-focal-length optical configurations, which suffer from bulky volume and heavy weight, which restricts their application to small satellite platforms.

Paler within the city: Carotenoid‐based colouration covaries negatively with the proportion of impervious surface in great tit (Parus major) territories across Europe

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Across six European cities, great tits in more impervious territories had paler carotenoid‐based plumage, but not lower brightness or UV chroma. This suggests that urban habitat imperviousness is associated specifically with lower carotenoid pigment deposition, rather than broad changes in feather reflectance or structural quality.

Beyond Sexual Selection: Natural Selection Related Camouflage and Thermoregulation Shape Sexual Color Dimorphism in Diploderma Lizards

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Integrating comparative spectrometry, image analysis, and thermal modeling, we reveal that (1) females optimize crypsis via background matching, (2) males prioritize high‐contrast disruptive patterning at a significant thermoregulatory cost (reduced solar heat gain), and (3) habitat‐specific monomorphism in Diploderma slowinskii underscores ecological ...

Long-Wave Infrared Multispectral Imager for Lunar Remote Sensing: Optical Design and Performance Evaluation

open access: yesPhotonics
High-resolution long-wave infrared imaging is critical for lunar mineralogy. However, it must balance a large FOV, a small F-number, chromatic aberration correction, optical efficiency, and system compactness.

Patient‐reported outcomes and visual function after four refractive strategies in cataract surgery: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) and visual function across four groups of public cataract patients: emmetropia, mini‐monovision, monovision with partial‐range of field (RoF) narrow intraocular lenses (IOLs) and patients implanted with partial‐RoF extended IOLs.

A Melanoma Transplanted in Nude Mice Has Both Host‐ and Tumor‐Derived Blood Vessel‐ and Nerve‐Like Structures

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Nestin‐driven green fluorescent protein (ND‐GFP) expressing peripheral blood vessels and nerves in the subcutaneous tissue of the ND‐GFP mice extended into the transplanted melanoma such that ND‐GFP was enhanced at the margin of the melanoma compared to the tumor‐free side.

3D Character Reconstruction from Hand‐drawn Model Sheets

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Hand‐drawn model sheets are widely used in character design to define 3D shape and appearance through sparse multi‐view drawings. Reconstructing 3D characters from such sparse inputs has traditionally been challenging due to insufficient visual information.
