Changes in zebrafish (Danio rerio) lens crystallin content during development. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
PurposeThe roles that crystallin proteins play during lens development are not well understood. Similarities in the adult crystallin composition of mammalian and zebrafish lenses have made the latter a valuable model for examining lens function.

Red-Emitting Tetracoordinate Organoboron Chelates: Synthesis, Photophysical Properties, and Fluorescence Microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Seven tetracoordinate organoboron fluorophores with heterobiaryl N,O- or N,N-chelate ligands were prepared and photophysically characterized (in toluene).

An efficient strategy for producing RNA‐free Nucleocapsid protein of SARS‐CoV‐2 for biochemical and structural investigations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cleavable N‐terminal Thioredoxin fusion enabled soluble expression and purification of otherwise insoluble SARS‐CoV‐2 Nucleocapsid (N) protein. A four‐step purification strategy yielded highly homogeneous, RNA‐free N protein. Binding assays showed high RNA affinity (Kd ~ 28 nm). The study will facilitate high‐resolution structural studies of N protein,

Separation Options for Phosphorylated Osteopontin from Transgenic Microalgae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Correct folding and post-translational modifications are vital for therapeutic proteins to elicit their biological functions. Osteopontin (OPN), a bone regenerative protein present in a range of mammalian cells, is an acidic phosphoprotein with multiple ...

Analysis of the regulation of undecaprenyl diphosphate dephosphorylation in Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
BacA, PgpB, and YbjG phosphatases are involved in undecaprenyl phosphate (C55P) synthesis in Escherichia coli. We analyzed the lipid contents and the gene expression in the gene‐disruption strains. Undecaprenyl diphosphate (C55PP) level increased in the bacA, ybjG double‐disruption strain, but C55P levels were similar in all strains.

Quantitative ultraviolet measurements on wetted thin-layer chromatography plates using a charge-coupled device camera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents the first study of the UV imaging of spots on thin-layer chromatographic plates whilst still wet with solvent. Imaging of spots of benzophenone during and after development was carried out using a charge-coupled device camera.

Interaction of class III cellobiose dehydrogenase with lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The activity of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase (LPMO) is supported by its auxiliary enzyme cellobiose dehydrogenase (CDH). The catalytic activity of both enzymes is coupled by electron transfer and a cyclic cascade generating substrates for both enzymes – hydrogen peroxide for LPMO and oxidized and non‐oxidized cellobiose and cello‐oligosaccharide ...

Oxalate-silica gel thin-layer system for free 2-hydroxy fatty acids and for fatty acyl coenzyme A

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1972
The 2-hydroxy fatty acids tend to yield streaks in thin-layer chromatography on silica gel plates. If potassium oxalate is included with binder-free silica gel, good spots are obtained.

Characterization of WAC interactions with R2TP and TTT chaperone complexes linking glucose and glutamine availability to mTORC1 activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TTT and R2TP chaperone complexes are required for the assembly and activation of mTORC1. WAC directly interacts with components of TTT, R2TP, and mTORC1, and these interactions are affected by the availability of glucose and glutamine, correlating with changes in mTORC1 activity.

A SIMPLE AND ECONOMICAL PROCEDURE FOR THE PURIFICATION OF IMMUNOGLOBULIN Y FROM EGG YOLK BY T-GEL CHROMATOGRAPHY

open access: yesIranian Journal of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, 2000
The use of immunoglobulin Y (IgY) instead of polyclonal antibodies prepared in mammals has been reported recently. These antibodies are found to have better properties in terms of specificity and ease of large scale production.
