Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Separation of whey proteins for chromatography liquid

open access: yesScientia Agropecuaria, 2010
This paper describes and compares three chromatographic methods for the analysis and quantification of most abundant proteins in cheese whey, -lactalbumin and -lactoglobulin. The methods were: Reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography, anion

Competitive adsorption of plasma proteins at solid—liquid interfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
The competitive adsorption of human serum albumin (HSA), human immuno-γ-globulin (HIgG) and human fibrinogen (HFb) onto polystyrene (PS) at 20° C and a pH of 7.35 (phosphate-buffered saline) was studied.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Tryptic peptide analysis of protein binders in works of art by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Comprehension of the materials, such as binding media, used by artists is of uttermost importance in restoration and in art historical studies. The most frequently used binders are drying oils and proteins; in this study focus is placed on proteins ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

RECENT ADVANCES IN GAS, LIQUID AND SUPERCRITICAL FLUID CHROMATOGRAPHY IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE/ GREEN CHEMISTRY

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pharmacy & Integrated Health Sciences
Background: Chromatographic techniques such as gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) have long been employed in analytical chemistry. However, using or producing certain organic solvents and non-
