Identification of the postlarval Penaeus (Crustacea, Decapoda, Penaeidae) appearing along shore waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Diagnostic characters for the identification of postlarval Penaeus appearing along the coastal waters of the Philippines are reviewed and categorized, based on materials from the wild and laboratory. Presently there are 7 adult known species belonging to

Database of low‐temperature absorption and fluorescence spectra of native photosynthetic tetrapyrrole macrocycles

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, Volume 102, Issue 2, Page 457-469, March/April 2026.
The absorption and fluorescence spectra at 77 K (frozen glass) and room temperature (fluid solution) are provided for 12 native photosynthetic macrocycles encompassing one porphyrin, eight chlorins, and 3 bacteriochlorins. Abstract Low‐temperature (77 K) absorption and fluorescence spectra of 12 naturally occurring photosynthetic tetrapyrrole ...

Evolving a photosynthetic organelle

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2012
The evolution of plastids from cyanobacteria is believed to represent a singularity in the history of life. The enigmatic amoeba Paulinella and its 'recently' acquired photosynthetic inclusions provide a fascinating system through which to gain fresh ...

Modified Toca Colour Finder (M-TCF) dan Kromatofor sebagai Penduga Tingkat Kecerahan Warna Ikan Komet (Carasius Auratus Auratus) yang Diberi Pakan dengan Proporsi Tepung Kepala Udang (TKU) yang Berbeda [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Goldfish is one of the ornamental freshwater fish which has interesting body colour. Efforts to increase the quality of colour needs to be done, by given the material which can increasing brightness of colour infeed.

Shapeshifting Liquid Metal Droplets for Soft Fluidic Machines

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 11, 20 February 2026.
This study presented a liquid metal shape shifting strategy which harnesses Lorentz force, surface tension and fluid instabilities to achieve autonomous fluidic power. By using a liquid metal droplet as a mobile current carrier, this strategy enables the development of low‐voltage, self‐oscillating pumps that outperform existing soft pumps.

Influence of Tank Coloration in Modulating Physiological Growth, Survival and Skin Pigmentation Expression in Nursery‐Reared Channa striata

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Tank colour is a crucial environmental factor that influences growth performance; however, its effect on Channa striata fry under laboratory environments is not widely recognized. This study investigated the influence of tank coloration on growth, survival, cannibalism, and pigmentation of C. striata larvae under nursery rearing conditions.

Improvement of Bioactive Compound Classification through Integration of Orthogonal Cell-Based Biosensing Methods

open access: yesSensors, 2007
Lack of specificity for different classes of chemical and biological agents, and false positives and negatives, can limit the range of applications for cell-based biosensors.

Toward identification of larval sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus), white marlin (Tetrapturus albidus), and blue marlin (Makaira nigricans) in the western North Atlantic Ocean* [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The identification of larval istiophorid billfishes from the western North Atlantic Ocean has long been problematic. In the present study, a molecular technique was used to positively identify 27 larval white marlin (Tetrapturus albidus), 96 larval blue ...

Chromatic interaction between egg pigmentation and skin chromatophores in the nuptial coloration of female two-spotted gobies

open access: yes, 2005
In two-spotted gobies (Gobiusculus flavescens Fabricius 1779), females develop an orange belly as they approach sexual maturity. Bright belly coloration is preferred by males and has been suggested to act as a female ornament.

Hiding the squid:patterns in artificial cephalopod skin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cephalopods employ their chromomorphic skins for rapid and versatile active camouflage and signalling effects. This is achieved using dense networks of pigmented, muscle-driven chromatophore cells which are neurally stimulated to actuate and affect local
