Effect of cooling rate on solidification structure and linear contraction of a duplex stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2012
Cooling rate is a key factor that can drastically affect the phase transformation and thermal stress of duplex stainless steels. Therefore, in this research, different sand moulds were used to explore the influence of cooling rate on the solidification ...

Moon's volcanic history revealed in glassy spherules from Apollo 17 soil 76501

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 389-404, March 2026.
Abstract Rapidly quenched droplets of pyroclastically erupted lava are common in lunar regolith at landing sites proximal to the maria. Here, we document the U‐Pb chronologies, major element, and trace element compositions of picritic glassy particles from Apollo 17 regolith sample 76501. These particles are dominated by high‐Ti compositions similar to

Al‐Khadhaf: The first camera‐observed (H5–6) meteorite fall from Oman

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 522-547, March 2026.
Abstract A fireball camera system installed in 2022 by the Oman Meteorite Monitoring Project (OMMP) as part of the Global Fireball Observatory (GFO) recorded a 3.2 s fireball on March 8, 2022 at 8:15 p.m. UTC. A meteoroid of 4 ± 2 kg entered the atmosphere at 14.0 km/s.

Stratigraphy of Carbonate‐Bearing Rocks at the Margin of Jezero Crater, Mars: Evidence for Shoreline Processes?

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Martian carbonate‐bearing rocks are compelling targets for exploration because they preserve detailed records of past aqueous processes, climate, and habitability. The Margin unit in Jezero crater is a distinct olivine‐ and carbonate‐bearing unit stratigraphically underlying the western fan, lining the inner margin of the western crater rim ...

Formation and Alteration of Olivine‐Carbonate Rocks Within Jezero Crater as Constrained by In Situ Visible/Near‐Infrared Multispectral Images

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Olivine‐ and carbonate‐bearing rocks are key exploration targets on Mars because of the information they can provide about magma evolution and source characteristics, implications for surface water availability and climate, and their biosignature preservation potential.

Natural geochemical risk in the Pollino Massif: a case-study of chromium

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2015
The geochemical risk linked to heavy metal contamination of soils and waters, commonly associated with anthropogenic causes, may, however, be linked to the presence of rocks and soils that naturally contain these metals.

Catalyst Design–Performance Relationships for the Selective Catalytic Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The transition from fossil resources to renewable biomass for fuel and chemical production requires efficient catalytic technologies. Furfural (FF), a key platform molecule derived from hemicellulose, serves as a crucial bridge between biomass and value‐added chemicals.
