Distribution of chromium in rats exposed to hexavalent chromium and trivalent chromium aerosols.

open access: yesINDUSTRIAL HEALTH, 1984
Retention and clearance of chromium in the lung, heart, liver, kidney, spleen, plasma and blood cells were investigated in rats after a single exposure to either hexavalent chromium (Cr (VI)) or trivalent chromium (Cr (III)) aerosols with different chromium levels (7.415.9 mg Cr/m3) and different particle size distributions.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Chromium-Catalyzed Alkene Isomerization with Switchable Selectivity

open access: yes
We report a single additive-responsive chromium-catalyzed system for selectively producing either of two different internal alkene isomers. The chromium catalyst, in the presence of HBpin/LiOtBu, enables the isomerization of alkenes over multiple carbon ...

Enhanced performance of hexavalent chromium reducing cathodes in the presence of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 and lactate

open access: yes, 2013
Biocathodes for the reduction of the highly toxic hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) were investigated using Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 (MR-1) as a biocatalyst and performance was assessed in terms of current production and Cr(VI) reduction. Potentiostatically

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Recent Developments in Chromium and Chromium Alloys [PDF]

open access: yesJOM, 1969
Chromium-base alloys, which have been under study now for slightly more than two decades, are attractive as potential competitors with nickel alloys for high temperature applications in advanced jet engines. Although chromium has a strength-to-density advantage over nickel, it is normally brittle at room temperature and is further embrittled by ...

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Coatings on stainless steel for solid oxide fuel cell interconnects

open access: yes, 2013
Enabling inexpensive and ubiquitous steels for use as solid oxide fuel cell interconnects has two major hurdles to overcome. Firstly, corrosion must be limited such that the interconnect can have longevity.
