Chromium- and Cobalt-Catalyzed, Regiocontrolled Hydrogenation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study

open access: yes, 2019
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are difficult substrates for hydrogenation because of the thermodynamic stability caused by aromaticity. We report here the first chromium- and cobalt-catalyzed, regiocontrolled hydrogenation of polycyclic aromatic ...

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Phytoextraction of Cr(VI) from soil using Portulaca oleracea

open access: yes, 2013
Cr(VI) represents an environmental challenge in both soil and water as it is soluble and bioavailable over a wide range of pH. In previous investigations, Portulaca oleracea (a plant local to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)) demonstrated particular ...

CHROMIUM BIOACCUMULATION FROM COMPOSTS AND VERMICOMPOSTS BASED ON TANNERY SLUDGES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2008
Storage of waste substances is not indifferent to ecological equilibrium in the environment therefore should not be the ultimate way to limit waste arduousness. Therefore, the conducted investigations aimed to determine the effect of tannery composts and

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Chromium-Catalyzed Activation of Acyl C–O Bonds with Magnesium for Amidation of Esters with Nitroarenes

open access: yes, 2019
Here, we report a chromium-catalyzed activation of acyl C–O bonds with magnesium for amidation of esters with nitroarenes. Low-cost chromium(III) chloride shows high reactivity in promoting amidation by using magnesium as reductant and ...

An efficient method of chromium extraction from chromium-containing slag with a high silicon content

open access: yes, 2016
An efficient process was proposed for extracting chromium from chromium-containing slag after desilication with aqueous NaOH solution. The effect of the NaOH concentration, liquid-to-solid mass ratio, and leaching temperature on the leaching rate of ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...
