Analysis of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma by conventional cytogenetics and fluorescence in-situ hybridisation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Cytogenetic analysis was performed on 40 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHQ node biopsies. Chromosomes X, 3 and 12 were the most frequently gained; of the much rarer monosomies, loss of chromosome 13 was most common.

Engineering an Optogenetic pH‐Modulator in Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cells in many naturally occurring organisms routinely cooperate to control their extracellular pH in a dynamic and reversible manner, but this capability has been underexplored in synthetic biology. Here, we sought to engineer a microbial system that switches between two states —high and low extracellular pH— with minimal human intervention ...

Fine‐Tuned Regulation of mRNA Translation and Transport by STAU2 Condensate Facilitates Neuronal Development and Plasticity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
STAU2 undergoes phase separation to form dynamic condensates that package target mRNAs and deliver them to the distal ends of growing neuronal dendrites. STAU2 condensates stabilize embedded mRNAs and repress their translation. Synaptic activity bidirectionally remodels STAU2 condensates, coordinating local translation of STAU2‐associated mRNAs ...

The Landscape and Regulation of Histone Crotonylation in Mammalian Gametes and Early Embryos

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Histone crotonylation undergoes a genome‐wide transition from broad domains to canonical narrow peaks during minor zygotic genome activation (ZGA). This remodeling is required for proper major ZGA and blastocyst formation. Disruption of this transition by transcriptional inhibition, metabolic perturbation, or HDAC1 dysfunction impairs embryonic ...

Sex determination in mythology and history

open access: yes, 2005
The history of ideas on how the sexes became divided spans at least three thousand years. The biblical account of the origin of Eve, and the opinions of the philosophers of classical Greece, have unexpected bearings on present-day ideas.

ACLY‐Driven Metabolic Reprogramming Promotes Histone Acetylation and Inflammation‐Associated Fibrosis in Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a citrate–ACLY–H3K27ac metabolic–epigenetic axis driving inflammatory gene activation and kidney fibrosis, highlighting ACLY inhibition as a potential therapeutic strategy for chronic kidney disease (CKD). ABSTRACT The mechanisms by which metabolic stress drives epigenetic dysregulation and fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Scalable Engineering of Bio‐Manufactured Extracellular Vesicles for Selective Delivery in Ovarian Cancer Patient‐Derived Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Engineered extracellular vesicles displaying Ephrin‐B2 selectively target Ephrin‐B4–expressing ovarian cancer cells, enabling precise delivery in patient‐derived models. This scalable bio‐manufacturing platform reveals a versatile strategy to exploit Ephrin signaling for highly specific therapeutic payload delivery and motivates exploration of tailored

Characterization of a novel human SMC heterodimer homologous to the Schizosaccharomyces pombe Rad18/Spr18 complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The structural maintenance of chromosomes (SMC) protein encoded by the fission yeast rad18 gene is involved in several DNA repair processes and has an essential function in DNA replication and mitotic control.
