Chronic myelogenous leukemia in chronic phase
Current Treatment Options in Oncology, 2001Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disorder characterized by genomic instability leading to its inevitable clinical evolution from an easily controlled chronic phase to a terminal blastic phase. The molecular abnormality responsible for this disease--BCR-ABL--and the critical biochemical aberrations resulting from it have

Chronic Granulomatous Disease Associated with Chronic Glomerulonephritis
Acta Paediatrica, 1985ABSTRACT. A boy with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) developed glomerulonephritis at the age of 12 years. The glomerulonephritis progressed to terminal uraemia at age 15 when maintenance haemodialysis was started. The clinical course was complicated by pulmonary aspergillosis and Pseudomonas septicaemia from which he eventually died.

Nearly 4000 patients will be admitted to hospital in the US this year for hiccups. Hiccups are controlled by a complex reflex arc between peripheral receptors and the brainstem. Any disruption along this pathway may produce hiccups. Typically, hiccups resolve spontaneously but in certain pathologies symptoms may persist.

Chronic pancreatitis is defined as a pathological fibro-inflammatory syndrome of the pancreas in individuals with genetic, environmental and/or other risk factors who develop persistent pathological responses to parenchymal injury or stress. Potential causes can include toxic factors (such as alcohol or smoking), metabolic abnormalities, idiopathic ...

Understanding of the etiology of chronic pain is growing rapidly as researchers seek to integrate physiologic and psychosocial mechanisms. When nurses assess clients with chronic pain, they should make their assessments using both verbal and nonverbal methods and realize that no one instrument is comprehensive enough to be used alone.

Chronic granulocytic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and its variants, and hairy cell leukemia are characterized by prominent organ infiltration and marrow replacement, with a course consisting of years. Although treatment is effective in ameliorating symptoms, little has been gained in terms of increased survival.
