Chronic intestinal pseudo‐obstruction in a dog

Australian Veterinary Journal, 1994
SUMMARY A three‐year‐old neutered female Border Collie was presented with in‐appetence, vomiting and diarrhoea. Abdominal radiographs revealed an obstructive pattern but no physical obstruction was evident at laparotomy. A diagnosis of chronic intestinal pseudo‐obstruction was made based on histopathological changes in intestinal biopsies.

Chronic intestinal pseudo‐obstruction: Progress in management?

Neurogastroenterology & Motility, 2017
AbstractChronic intestinal pseudo‐obstruction (CIPO) is a severe form of gastrointestinal dysmotility (often due to derangement of the innervation/smooth muscle/interstitial cells of Cajal) with recurrent episodes of intestinal subocclusion mimicking a mechanical obstruction.

Chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction

Current Treatment Options in Gastroenterology, 2000
The definition of chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIIP) is somewhat vague because it was based on clinical observations that preceded modern advances in the measurement of gut motility and neuromuscular integrity. Appropriate management of patients with CIIP requires an initial consideration, supported by pertinent diagnostic tests ...

Autonomic dysfunction in chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction

Clinical Autonomic Research, 1998
Fifteen tests were used to assess adrenergic, non-vagal cholinergic, and cardiovagal functions in 11 patients with chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIP). The three aims of this study were: 1) to ascertain the presence of and spectrum of autonomic involvement; 2) to assess the level of autonomic dysfunction; and 3) to compare the results of ...

Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction: Diagnosis and Treatment

Mayo Clinic Proceedings, 1989
Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a rare syndrome characterized by recurrent episodes of small bowel obstruction without evidence of a structural obstructing lesion. The two pathophysiologic types of this motility disorder are myopathic and neuropathic. The latter may affect extrinsic or intrinsic neural control of gut motility.

Nutritional Management of Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction

Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, 1999
Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIP) is a gastrointestinal motility disturbance characterized by recurrent episodes of postprandial nausea and bloating in the absence of mechanical obstruction of the small bowel or colon. Weight loss and severe malnutrition are often seen in advanced stages of the disorder. This article discusses the nutritional

Clinical heterogeneity of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction

Transplantation Proceedings, 1997
Abstract Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIP) is a disorder of the propulsion of the intestinal content, due to a disturbance in the intestinal and colonic myoelectric activity. The diagnosis is a clinical one based on signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction in the absence of a mechanical luminal obstruction.

Immune deficiencies in chronic intestinal pseudo‐obstruction

Acta Paediatrica, 1997
Aim: Chronic intestinal pseudo‐obstruction has been associated with urinary disorders, myopathy, and ophthalmoplegia in adults and cholelithiasis in children. We observed a high percentage of total‐parenteral‐nutrition‐dependent patients with pseudo‐obstruction and recurrent infections requiring gammaglobulin infusions.

Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction in Childhood

2015
Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) comprises a group of rare, heterogeneous, and disabling disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract characterized by absent or ineffective intestinal peristalsis.
