Prostanoids in patients with diabetes and chronic limb-threatening ischemia: a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials for the development of the Italian guidelines for the treatment of diabetic foot syndrome

open access: yes
The incidence and prevalence of chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) are dramatically increasing among patients with diabetes [1]. CLTI is characterized by the presence of rest pain, gangrene, or lower limb ulceration > 2 weeks duration [1]

Influence of age on the development of stress hyperglycemia during first‐onset ST‐elevation myocardial infarction

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Among 8,779 non‐diabetic patients with first‐onset STEMI, older age was associated with a higher likelihood of stress hyperglycemia. However, the excess mortality risk associated with stress hyperglycemia was greatest in younger patients and attenuated with advancing age, highlighting the possibility of age‐dependent prognostic significance.

Clinicogenetic Characterization of H Syndrome in a South African Child

open access: yesPediatric Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT H syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive genodermatosis caused by loss‐of‐function SLC29A3 variants, combining hyperpigmented indurated plaques and hypertrichosis with life‐threatening autoinflammation. We report a 5‐year‐old South African girl of first‐cousin parents who presented with hyperinflammation mimicking macrophage activation ...

Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio – Risk of Amputation and Mortality in Patients with Limb-Threatening Ischemia – a Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Emergencies
Acute limb ischemia (ALI) and chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) are severe vascular conditions that can be lethal. The inflammatory response in these diseases, characterized by increased levels of neutrophils and platelets, highlights the ...

Dietary interventions in acute kidney injury: From molecular mechanism to clinical trials

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ageing impairs renal resilience with an elevated risk of frequent and harmful acute kidney injury (AKI) that causes substantial morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients. Since different damaging stimuli at the molecular, cellular and functional level contribute to this loss in kidney function, AKI's pathophysiology is heterogeneous ...

A Comparative Analysis of Modifiable Risk Factors for Chronic Limb-threatening Ischemia

open access: yesIndian Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
Aim: The purpose of the present study is to identify modifiable risk factors causing chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). On the basis of the findings, we believe that early detection of the modifiable risk factors and its timely management will be ...

Small muscle mass aerobic exercise in health and disease: Unique insights into muscle vascular and metabolic control and performance

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Studies of small muscle mass exercise (SMME) have revealed that the peripheral O2 transport–utilization cascade is a dynamically regulated system in which perfusive and diffusive components can be selectively amplified, redistributed and mechanically limited depending on contraction pattern, recruitment strategy and intramuscular pressure ...

Spinal cord stimulation trial can control pain caused by chronic limb-threatening ischemia

open access: yes
Background: Patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia experience long-duration pain during ulcer treatment. Hence, painkillers are gradually increased, but adverse events often occur.

The acute and chronic effects of local aerobic exercise on cardiovascular physiology

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Exercise training has beneficial effects for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Effects of exercise training have typically been studied in the form of whole‐body exercise training, partly driven by the assumption that larger effects of exercise training can be achieved by involving more and larger muscle groups.
