Multi‐cohort evaluation of “Don't know” responders to self‐report oral health questions: Implications for etiologic research

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Self‐reported data can extend the reach of oral health research, but “Don't know” responses may threaten validity. We explored characteristics of participants who responded “Don't know” to a periodontal health question across three distinct cohorts.

Relationship between depression and chronic periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Indian Society of Periodontology, 2015
Periodontitis is a chronic, multifactorial, polymicrobial disease causing inflammation in the supporting structures of the teeth. There is a plethora of nonoral risk factors which can be quoted to aid in the development of chronic periodontitis. According to WHO, depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy on nonsurgical treatment of peri‐implantitis: 12–26 months follow‐up

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, renowned for its immunomodulatory effects and established efficacy in orthopedics, shows promise for managing peri‐implantitis by reducing soft tissue inflammation and marginal bone loss.

Mediators of the association between education and periodontitis: Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Aim To estimate the causal link between the risk of chronic periodontitis and educational attainment (EA). Methods The biggest genome-wide association studies (GWAS) were used to conduct two-sample univariable Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses to ...

Probiotic consumption reduces alveolar bone loss and kidney damage in pregnant rats with experimental periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 (B. lactis HN019) is a probiotic bacterial strain with immunomodulatory properties. Its benefits have been observed in healthy and systemically compromised animals with periodontitis (PD). Our objective was to investigate the local and systemic effects of the systemic administration of B.

Epigenetic change in e-cardherin and COX-2 to predict chronic periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2010
Background DNA methylation of certain genes frequently occurs in neoplastic cells. Although the cause remains unknown, many genes have been identified with such atypical methylation in neoplastic cells.

Periodontitis in patients with severe erectile dysfunction undergoing penile prosthesis implantation: Clinical and immunohistochemical study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The relationship between periodontitis and erectile dysfunction (ED) has been poorly documented in Caucasian populations, particularly severe ED (SED) requiring penile prostheses. This study aimed to evaluate the association between periodontitis and SED in patients undergoing penile prosthesis implantation, and to identify clinical

Salivary microbiota and clinical periodontal measures predicting cardiometabolic disease mortality: A nationwide survey

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Although periodontitis and oral microbiota are linked to cardiometabolic diseases (CMD), it is unclear if they similarly predict CMD mortality. We compared the predictive ability of salivary microbiota and periodontal disease measures for CMD mortality in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

Experimental chronic periodontitis morphogenesis

open access: yesМорфологія, 2011
Morphogenesis of periodontium tissue in a model of chronic periodontitis was studied. Adult Wistar rats were used in a model; chronic periodontitis was developed through mastication-related loading decrease. Histological assessment of periodontium tissue was conducted at Days 7, 14, 21 and 30.
