Towards automated identification of changes in laboratory measurement of renal function: implications for longitudinal research and observing trends in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Introduction: Kidney function is reported using estimates of glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). However, eGFR values are recorded without reference to the creatinine (SCr) assays used to derive them, and newer assays were introduced at different time points across laboratories in UK. These changes may cause systematic bias in eGFR reported in routinely

Hyperlipoproteinemia in experimental chronic renal insufficiency in the rat

open access: yesKidney International, 1978
Lipid metabolism was studied in experimental uremia. Uremic (U) rats were compared with sham-operated, pair-fed (PF) controls and with ad-lib-fed (AL) controls. In U animals, fasting glucose concentrations were normal, immunoreactive serum insulin (IRI) levels were decreased, and immunoreactive glucagon levels were increased.

CXCL13 Expression Promotes CAR T Cell Antitumor Activity and Potentiates Response to PD‐1 Blockade

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that engineering CAR T cells to express CXCL13 enhances their antitumor efficacy and significantly improves responsiveness to PD‐1 immune checkpoint blockade. CXCL13 promotes T cell persistence, and resistance to early exhaustion via the AKT‐mTOR pathway.

Renal replacement therapy in ICU

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2012
Diagnosing and managing critically ill patients with renal dysfunction is a part of the daily routine of an intensivist. Acute kidney insufficiency substantially contributes to the morbidity and mortality of critically ill patients.

Dithymoquinone as a novel inhibitor for 3-carboxy-4-methyl-5-propyl-2-furanpropanoic acid (CMPF) to prevent renal failure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
3-carboxy-4-methyl-5-propyl-2-furanpropanoic acid (CMPF) is a major endogenous ligand found in the human serum albumin (HSA) of renal failure patients. It gets accumulated in the HSA and its concentration in sera of patients may reflect the chronicity of renal failure [1-4].

The impact of delayed adjuvant chemotherapy on survival in gastric cancer patients with and without preoperative chemotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Delayed initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) is associated with significantly poorer postoperative survival in patients with gastric cancer, irrespective of whether preoperative chemotherapy was administered. These findings emphasize the importance of timely AC initiation to improve long‐term outcomes in this patient population.

Hypoglycemic therapy in patients on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis

open access: yesСахарный диабет, 2010
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a leading cause of renal insufficiency in developed countries. Most cases of chronic renal disease in DM patients are dueto diabetic nephropathy.

Long‐Term Nutritional Benefits of Laparoscopic Pancreatoduodenectomy Over Open Surgery

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Minimally invasive laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) significantly improves long‐term nutritional outcomes compared to open pancreaticoduodenectomy (OPD). LPD patients demonstrated better preservation of muscle mass index (PMI) and a lower incidence of postoperative fatty liver.

Epidemiological clinical characterization of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease

open access: yesActa Médica del Centro, 2016
Chronic kidney disease is considered as one of the major epidemics of the XXI century and provides a significant burden of morbidity and mortality in the world; it is important to identify and modify the factors of risk that influence its progression. In
