Mitochondria‐Targeted Nanotherapies in Aging Neurodegenerative Disorders: Emerging Prospects and Clinical Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Mitochondria‐targeted nanotherapies emerge as a promising strategy for combating aging‐associated neurodegenerative disorders (NDs) by restoring mitochondrial function, reducing oxidative stress, and improving neuronal survival. Recent advances in nanotechnology, therapeutic delivery, and translational research are highlighted, providing insights into ...

Respiratory health in the past: a bioarchaeological study of chronic maxillary sinusitis and rib periostitis from the Iron Age to the Post Medieval Period in Southern England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Respiratory disease has affected human populations throughout our history and remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality today. In spite of this, there is a dearth of bioarchaeological research on this important subject.

Multiwavelength Implantable Oximeter for Wireless Monitoring of Tissue Oxygenation in the Presence of Blood Volume Changes

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an implantable, wireless, battery‐free oximeter that can continuously monitor physiologically consistent regional tissue oxygenation under dynamic changes of blood volume. This is achieved through multiwavelength photoplethysmography and validated both via Monte Carlo simulations and in vivo rat studies. Different stress events were

Acute hYpErcapnic respiratory failure in The ICU: A multicenter prospective observational study - The YETI study

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care
Background: Acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHcRF) is a common cause of intensive care unit (ICU) admission, particularly in patients with chronic respiratory diseases. However, large-scale epidemiological data on AHcRF prevalence, management, and

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

A Geometrically Transient Platform for Bioelectronic Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Minimally invasive bioelectronic implants often compromise performance for smaller sizes. To resolve this optimization dilemma, a wireless bioelectronic implant with a transient geometry is introduced (MiFi). The origami‐inspired device miniaturizes up to sixfold for syringe insertion and autonomously unfolds post‐implantation.

High burden of Aspergillus fumigatus infection among chronic respiratory diseases

open access: yes, 2018
Aspergillus fumigatus (AF) is a ubiquitous fungus in our environment and causes severe airway disorders. Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) are a series of chronic airway and lung diseases. Although both are chronic disorders, however, the relationships

Nemaline myopathy revealed by respiratory failure in adults

open access: yes, 2007
Most forms of myopathy may involve the respiratory muscles and progress to respiratory failure. However, the diagnosis of myopathy is seldom considered in an adult patient with no history of muscle disease and presenting with respiratory failure ...
