Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Comments on “Post-extubation high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy versus non-invasive ventilation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with hypercapnic respiratory failure”

open access: yesMonaldi Archives for Chest Disease, 2023
Dear Editor, The recent study published by Ketan et al. provides emerging evidence on the expanding indications for high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) therapy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

A case of lateral medullary infarction with severe dysphagia and worsening of respiratory failure in the chronic phase of recovery

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2018
Key Clinical Message Patients with lateral medullary infarction (LMI) sometimes present with respiratory failure in the acute or subacute phase. We experienced a LMI patient with progression of respiratory failure that required bilevel positive airway ...

Long-term effects of oxygen-enriched high-flow nasal cannula treatment in COPD patients with chronic hypoxemic respiratory failure

open access: yesInternational Journal of COPD, 2018
Background This study investigated the long-term effects of humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) in COPD patients with chronic hypoxemic respiratory failure treated with long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT).

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...

P/F Ratio is a Better Predictor for Non-Invasive Ventilation Failure and Length of Stay in Patients with Community-Acquired Pneumonia

open access: yesJurnal Respirasi
Introduction: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) can deteriorate into respiratory failure requiring immediate ventilatory intervention. This study compared the performance of the PaO2/FiO2 (P/F) ratio, the ratio of oxygen saturation (ROX) index, and the ...

Survey on accessibility and real-life application of noninvasive ventilation

open access: yesERJ Open Research, 2018
Noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) is an accepted method of respiratory failure treatment; however, at present, little is known about the global factors limiting NIV application. A survey designed to determine NIV accessibility and limiting factors
