Chronic Subdural Hematoma in the Elderly
Clinics in Geriatric Medicine, 1991Elderly individuals may develop an asymptomatic subdural hematoma as a result of minor trauma, anticoagulant therapy, or other factors. A membrane forms around the initial clot, and this membrane becomes the source for many smaller hemorrhages. Spontaneous Resolution of Chronic Subdural Hematomas
Neurosurgery, 1986Four patients with chronic subdural hematomas, all of which resolved spontaneously, were followed from the time of injury to resolution of the chronic subdural hematoma. Periodic computed tomographic (CT) scans showed spontaneous resolution 78, 174, 231, and 326 days after the development of the chronic subdural hematoma, respectively.

Coagulation and fibrinolysis in chronic subdural hematoma
Neurosurgery, 1989In 19 patients with chronic subdural hematoma, coagulation and fibrinolysis in venous blood taken at the time of surgery and in the hematoma contents aspirated from chronic subdural hematoma were studied. Compared with coagulation results for venous blood, the hematoma contents demonstrated marked prolongation of the recalcification time, prothrombin ...

✓ A controlled clinical trial was planned to compare the effect of mannitol treatment with surgical intervention in chronic subdural hematoma. It was discontinued after the first seven patients showed no response to mannitol therapy. We recommend that operative intervention be considered the treatment of choice.
