Is the function of the HBeAg really unknown?

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2019
The immune response to the hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine in newborns of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive or HBeAg-negative mothers is the subject of Huang et al. The authors report no correlation between the HBeAg status of the mothers/cord blood

To control or not? A motivational perspective on coping with pain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Pain relief is often the primordial treatment objective in pain patients. However, an exclusive focus upon pain relief may have costs. Evidence is accumulating that persistent attempts to gain control over pain may, paradoxically, hinder successful ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Developmental Lumbar Spinal Canal Stenosis and Severity of Radiculopathy

open access: yesThe Annals of African Surgery, 2019
Background: The severity of radiculopathy is varied and may not concur with MRI findings. Large disc bulges may elicit fewer symptoms than smaller bulges. This was postulated to be due to the size of the canal.

Inventory of personal factors influencing conditioned pain modulation in healthy people: a systematic literature review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Conditioned pain modulation (CPM) is believed to play an important role in the development and exacerbation of chronic pain, because dysfunction of CPM is associated with a shift in balance between pain facilitation and pain inhibition.

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Prophylactic inhibition of soluble epoxide hydrolase delays onset of nephritis and ameliorates kidney damage in NZB/W F1 mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Epoxy-fatty-acids (EpFAs), cytochrome P450 dependent arachidonic acid derivatives, have been suggested to have anti-inflammatory properties, though their effects on autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have yet to be investigated ...

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Role of Interleukin 17 in arthritis chronicity through survival of synoviocytes via regulation of synoviolin expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: The use of TNF inhibitors has been a major progress in the treatment of chronic inflammation. However, not all patients respond. In addition, response will be often lost when treatment is stopped. These clinical aspects indicate that other
