Preliminary evidence of the horizontal transmission of Wolbachia between Crioceris leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) and their Asparagus host plants

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2017
Intracellular bacteria of the genus Wolbachia (α-Proteobacteria) are the most widespread endosymbionts of insects. Host infection is usually associated with alterations in reproduction, such as cytoplasmic incompatibility, the induction of ...

Seasonal changes in bruchid (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae) assemblages along managed highway ecotones

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2017
Spring and summer composition and species richness of bruchid pre-dispersal seed predator assemblages associated with species of leguminous plants were monitored in a four-year non-experimental survey of 32 service areas along five highways in Hungary ...

Olfactory preference in chemical host plant recognition by male and female click beetles and its implications for pest management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Click beetle (Elateridae) olfactory preferences for plant volatiles, including those released by damaged plants, remain poorly understood. Olfactometer and electroantennography experiments revealed sex‐ and plant species‐specific olfactory preferences of Agriotes sputator beetles, with maturity influencing female responses.

Distinct barcodes for the Cereal leaf beetles Oulema melanopus and Oulema duftschmidi (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), two syntopical sibling species

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2020
Oulema melanopus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Oulema duftschmidi (Redtenbacher, 1874) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) are two native West Palaearctic species developing on various cultivated and wild grasses. Along with O. obscura they are considered to be secondary

Alien leaf beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) of European Russia and some general tendencies of leaf beetle invasions

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Invasions of leaf beetles can cause tremendous economic consequences because some of these insects become major pests in invaded territories. We present the first inventory of alien Chrysomelidae of European Russia that appeared in the region in the 20th
