Variability in root biomechanics of Chrysopogon zizanioides for soil eco-engineering solutions
Science of The Total Environment, 2021Aims We investigated and compared the variability in biomechanical properties of Chrysopogon zizanioides L. (vetiver grass), including tensile strength, Young's modulus, and breakage strain, which have direct implication to root reinforcement to slope ...

Thermoplastic starch nanocomposites using cellulose-rich Chrysopogon zizanioides nanofibers
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2021Green thermoplastic starch (TPS) nanocomposite films aided by cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) from Chrysopogon zizanioides roots were developed and characterized. When compared to other lignocellulosic fibers, Chrysopogon zizanioides roots revealed exceptionally high cellulose content (~48%).

Mechanical responses of Chrysopogon zizanioides roots under cyclic loading conditions
Plant and Soil, 2023Background and aims: Data on cyclic root mechanical behaviour (i.e. roots subjected to repeated loading and unloading cycles at a given frequency) are lacking. In this study, cyclic root mechanical traits were measured. Methods: Chrysopogon zizanioides L. roots were sampled for monotonic and cyclic tensile tests.

EFFECTIVENESS OF LAUNDRY WASTE TREATMENT WITH CHRYSOPOGON ZIZANIOIDES L
Pollution Research, 2022The increase in the laundry industry has an impact on the environment if the laundry liquid waste is not managed properly. Laundry waste generally contains high concentrations of sodium, boron, ammonia, nitrogen, surfactants and phosphates. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the right method in reducing the dangers posed by the waste from the ...

Metabolic response of vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) to acid mine drainage
Chemosphere, 2020Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a sulfuric discharge containing metals and particulates that can spread to nearby water sources, imposing toxicity and physical stress to living things. We have shown that vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides) is capable of tolerating and treating AMD-impacted water from the abandoned Tab-Simco mining site from southern ...

Potential therapeutic effect of Chrysopogon zizanioides (Vetiver) as an anti-inflammatory agent
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021Vetiver has a broad history of traditional medicinal uses, but only a handful of research article has reported its utility in treating diseases. But unfortunately, no work has been reported on the anti-inflammatory activity of its plant extract and inflammatory-linked diseases. Hence, the present review focuses on investigating the several presumptions

Tetracycline uptake and metabolism by vetiver grass (Chrysopogon zizanioides L. Nash)
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2016Environmental contamination by antibiotics not only perturbs the ecological balance but also poses a risk to human health by promoting the development of multiantibiotic-resistant bacteria. This study focuses on identifying the biochemical pathways associated with tetracycline (TC) transformation/degradation in vetiver grass that has the potential to ...

Preliminary Phytochemical Screening of Chrysopogon zizanioides L. Chloroform Extract
2023A single herbal plant can be composed of thousands of botanical constituents or secondary metabolites, and the possibilities for new drug development and discovery are becoming increasingly evident. Initial phytochemical screens were performed using qualitative methods. Phytochemicals are chemicals that occur naturally in plants.
