Summertime circulation in the eastern Chukchi Sea

Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2015
Abstract The transport of Pacific-origin water across the eastern Chukchi Sea during summer is studied using shipboard hydrographic and Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler data from multiple surveys. The study identifies two major transport pathways in this region.

Southeastern Chukchi Sea (Alaska) epibenthos

Polar Biology, 2004
Epibenthos of the southeastern Chukchi Sea, inclusive of Kotzebue Sound, was sampled in 1976. Crustaceans dominated abundance while echinoderms, mainly sea stars, dominated biomass. Spatial distribution of fauna was determined by cluster analysis. Scavenger-predators were dominant trophic groups, although suspension feeders dominated some regions ...

Northward flow in the Bering and Chukchi seas

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1987
The ocean circulation on the Bering and Chukchi sea shelves is investigated using a barotropic numerical model. In the presence of the winter seasonal wind stress from the northeast, observed northward transport through Bering Strait of 0.6 Sv for the 8‐month winter season 1981–1982 can be driven by a sea level difference of 0.4 m between the Pacific ...

Southeastern Chukchi Sea (Alaska) macrobenthos

Polar Biology, 2006
Macrobenthos in the southeastern Chukchi Sea, inclusive of the Chukchi Bight and Kotzebue Sound, were collected in 1985–1987 to determine factors influencing faunal distribution, abundance and biomass. Polychaetes, crustaceans, bivalve mollusks, and ophiuroid echinoderms dominated abundance.

Microbial processes of the carbon and sulfur cycles in the Chukchi Sea

Microbiology, 2007
The research performed in August 2004 within the framework of the Russian-American Long-term Census of the Arctic (RUSALCA) resulted in the first data concerning the rates of the key microbial processes in the water column and bottom sediments of the Bering strait and the Chukchi Sea. The total bacterial counts in the water column varied from 30 x 10(3)

Acoustic characterization of exploration drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
This paper characterizes underwater sound levels produced by three drilling units during offshore exploration drilling at three sites in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas. Received levels and spectra are reported as functions of distance during drilling and excavation of mudline cellars (MLCs).

Holocene Oceanography of Chukchi Sea: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1969
Piston cores from the southeastern Chukchi Sea have permitted differentiation of modern from Holocene sediments deposited when sea level stood about 20 m lower. Because microfossil distributions in modern sediments are associated closely with ice-free oceanographic conditions, the following trends appear to be related to Holocene oceanographic ...

Tritium and Plutonium in Waters from the Bering and Chukchi Seas

Health Physics, 1999
During the summer of 1993, seawater in the Bering and Chukchi Seas was sampled on a joint Russian-American cruise [BERPAC] of the RV Okean to determine concentrations of tritium, 239Pu and 240Pu. Concentrations of tritium were determined by electrolytic enrichment and liquid scintillation counting.

SEISMIC CRUSTAL STUDY IN THE CHUKCHI SEA

1962
Abstract : During the period from June 22 to September 12, 1961, a seismic refraction study of the emerged and submerged coastal plain of northern Alaska was started in an attempt to determine the structure of the earth's crust in that area. This seismic study is part of a broad program of gravity, magnetic, and seismic investigations of the Arctic ...

Storm surges in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1984
Specific problems of storm surge modeling in the polar seas are analyzed. The vertically integrated equations of motion and continuity are applied to the prediction of the storm surge wave in both the ice‐free and ice‐covered seas. The interactions of atmosphere, ice, and water are expressed by the normal and tangential stresses.
