Epibenthic community variability in the northeastern Chukchi Sea

Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2014
Abstract Epibenthic organisms can occur in large numbers and high biomass on the continental shelf of the northeastern Chukchi Sea. From an ecosystem perspective, epibenthic organisms are important in recycling and redistributing organic matter deposited from the pelagic zone, and they also are key members of the local food web.

Nitrogen uptake dynamics in landfast sea ice of the Chukchi Sea

Polar Biology, 2015
The coastal Chukchi Sea has a particularly productive landfast ice ecosystem but is currently lacking direct measurements of nitrogen (N) cycling within the ice. Using stable isotopic tracers, we measured uptake and regeneration of ammonium and nitrate, along with primary and secondary production at three depths within landfast sea ice in the Chukchi ...

SEISMIC CRUSTAL STUDY IN THE CHUKCHI SEA

1962
Abstract : During the period from June 22 to September 12, 1961, a seismic refraction study of the emerged and submerged coastal plain of northern Alaska was started in an attempt to determine the structure of the earth's crust in that area. This seismic study is part of a broad program of gravity, magnetic, and seismic investigations of the Arctic ...

Short range acoustic transmission in the Chukchi Sea

Ocean 73 - IEEE International Conference on Engineering in the Ocean Environment, 1973
Short range acoustic transmission measurements were made in the summer of 1972 between two stations on a drifting ice floe in the marginal ice zone of the Chukchi Sea. The measurements were accomplished by transmitting short 60 kHz pulses from a transmitter placed at a fixed depth and then raising and lowering a receiving hydrophone 220 yd away at ...

Marine magnetic study in the northeast Chukchi Sea

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1968
During the 1961 and 1962 field seasons, the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey conducted sea magnetometer operations off the northwest coast of Alaska. Tracklines, primarily oriented in a north-south direction and spaced at intervals of 10 km or less, provided adequate coverage for the delineation of prominent magnetic anomalies.

Storm surges in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1984
Specific problems of storm surge modeling in the polar seas are analyzed. The vertically integrated equations of motion and continuity are applied to the prediction of the storm surge wave in both the ice‐free and ice‐covered seas. The interactions of atmosphere, ice, and water are expressed by the normal and tangential stresses.
